Animal Growth saves

If I Summon Nature's Ally and then cast Animal Growth on the summoned animal does it get the Fortitude save? Does the SR apply? If not, then why not?

If I cast Animal Growth on my Druid's animal companion, does it get the save?

If I cast a spell on myself that also affects my animal companion does it get a save? Even if the effect is harmless?

If my companion gets the saves in the situations above, is it reasonable to have a trick, Allow Spells, which would train it to voluntarily fail the saves on spells cast by it's master? Without this, the Share Spells ability and spells such as Animal Growth, Magic Fang, and Cures are much less useful.

Animals don't get SR. In any event of course it gets no save - if you're willing to accept a spell, it gets no save. Your ally is willing to accept a buffing spell.

No, because it enjoys getting buffed.

If I cast a spell on myself that also affects my animal companion does it get a save? Even if the effect is harmless?

If it's a harmful effect, it gets a save. If it's a good effect, it doesn't get a save.

Share Spell is useless anyway - how often do you stick within 5 feet of your dire bear companion all the time during combat?

When you've got the Spirited Charge feat, of course :) And a Lion's Charge spell running on both of you...

Or when you're a druid with martial weapon prof: lance, spirited charge, and a rhinocerous companion, wildshaped into a dire ape, and both animal growthed.

heh.

Untrue.

A protective spell might be shared as 'just in case' protection from, say, a surprise Fireball. That is of minor value.

It is often overlooked that Share Spells allows the casting of spells normally restricted to yourself on the animal companion. Longstrider would be the simplest example. Body of the Sun (MotW) is a more interesting choice.

I could find a use for instantaneous spells, but unless I'm riding the companion I can't see it being that useful.

In the chaos of combat it's pretty difficult to fight back-to-back with a dire bear, or weasel, or whatever.

Seriously, no matter how well you train the animal it's going to run from attackers or chase them, breaking the effect.

No, you missed his point.

You can cast Body of the Sun (a Personal spell) on your companion in one of two ways.

You can cast it on yourself and let it affect him as well - in which case he must stay within 5 feet.

Or you can just cast it on him, even though it's Range: Personal. In that case, he doesn't have to stay close to you.

A ranger with a horse animal companion could share Longstrider and Pass without trace with it, which is very cool. :)

I get it now - it's expanding target options a bit, but if you both want the spell, you may need to cast it twice.

PSP what is Body of the Sun?
