Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall will be a high-level Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Today, Wizards of the Coast officially made the upcoming adventure and its companion rulebook Arcana Unleashed, available for pre-order. The listing for Deadfall reveals that it will be a Level 11-20 adventure, pitting players against the undead lich Szass Tam. The new adventure is billed as a "magical spy thriller" with Tam set to unleash a demonic undead horde upon the Forgotten Realms.

The adventure will also feature 20 dedicated maps, a Thay gazetteer, 6 "high-CR" creature statblocks, including Szass Tam, and 14 magic items.

Historically, Wizards of the Coast has shied away from high-level adventures for its 5th Edition campaigns, although there were a few exceptions like Dungeon of the Mad Mage and Vecna: Eve of Ruin. It's interesting that, for the first official campaign adventure for 5.5E, Wizards is opting for a high-level campaign as opposed to an entry level campaign.

Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall will be released on September 15th.

I am not now, nor am I likely to ever be a DM, but: I do see arguments made either way (perhaps here and elsewhere) : people either prefer a fully fleshed out adventure/campaign detailing almost everything, or the opposite of a loosely defined one that leaves plenty of room to the DM for details to fill out on his/her own.

I might be willing to run a campaign from a published outline provided it's a well-thought-out outline. A plot where the plot beats make sense, and where the party isn't expected to make weird leaps in logic or poor choices. And it would have to be actually clever and or/imaginative.

We'll see what we get.

I'm real curious as to what a "magical spy thriller" might be. This adventure covers the same levels as Vecna: Eve of Ruin, which is what I was originally going to run if my group finishes their current book (Infinite Staircase) and wants to continue. Of course I already told them about Vecna and we've had some Vecna theming to encounters, so I hope Szass Tam is not too offended if I change his name and setting...

I misunderstood your post, then. You meant "it should be more than 128 pages long"?
for an adventure spanning 10 levels, esp. 11 - 20, definitely. Not sure why that is a surprise, so far they were somewhere between 240 and 320 pages, so 128 is really meager
