Astral Seal + Reaping Strike

Our cleric cast Astral Seal on an enemy. Then our fighter came in behind and did Reaping Strike. The Reaping Strike missed, but he was wielding a two handed weapon so he got to deal his Str modifier damage. Does he get the hit points from Astral Seal for hitting the enemy?

I'm thinking RAW says no you don't get the hit points. We weren't 100% clear on how to handle this as he does still damage the enemy.

Hitting != damage. Hitting is when you roll a D20 and score a hit.

To break it down even further, are you doing stuff in the Miss: entry? if you are, you did not hit. A power can only count as a hit if it has a Hit: entry and you got to do the stuff in that entry during this use of the power.

Yep yep. Just one more corner case: if a PC uses a power which only deals damage as an Effect, he has neither hit nor missed.
