Attacks of opportunity

If three people are fighting 3 monsters in close combat, all adjacent to each other, does everyone get an attack of opportunity on every one else, ie 3 attacks per round.

Or does each character get an attack against their foe adn against one other monster and the same for the monsters, unless special skills/feats are posessed.

I assume you mean this setup:

1 2 3
4 5 6

Where the sides are 1,2 & 3 -vs- 4, 5 & 6.

Only the middle opponents, 2 and 5, would get three attacks (if attacks of opportunity are available) and the outer opponents would only get two. 1 is NOT adjacent to 6....

Generally, each participant in a melee only may take one attack of opportunity per round, regardless of how many "opportunities" present themselves.

The main exception to this is if a combatant has the Combat Reflexes feat. This allows 1+ DEX modifier AoO's per round (assuming the opps are there).

Um. No. Attacking someone with a melee weapon does not provoke a AoO. Nor does moving 5' and attacking someone with a melee weapon. So in the situation above, as the two pair of three foes were in melee combat there would be no AoO.

ONLY if the opponent did something to provoke an AoO (cast a spell, make a RANGED attack, etc) would the foes whose Area of Threat they are in have a shot at him. OR if they moved more then 5'.

And even then, with use of the Casting Defensively tactic (which ANY spell caster can do) they might not get an AoO on a spell caster doing his thing.

Hope that helps.

Remember, you only get attacks of opportunity against a creature you threaten who PROVOKES an attack of opportunity... for example if you're standing right next to a wizard, you don't get an attack of opportunity against him unless he does something like try to run away, or cast a spell.

I'm just saying this since you talk like you're assuming that you automatically get attacks of opportunity against everyone next to you.

And also, as was previously said... you only get ONE attack of opportunity per turn, unless you have combat reflexes or some similar feat.
