Avenger "Twin Step" Plus CA

How does this utility work in regards to combat advantage.
As it is a Move action.

If you are hidden at the start of the round, then teleport 8 squares in front of enemy for a close blast attack against a group of enemy.

Then teleport back 8 squares.

Do you get CA for that, I have no idea ?
But I feel I should know.

No. "As a Free Action" clearly tells you it a second, different, action.

If you had a power that let you teleport as a free action (not a move action) you could use it after you invoked a close blast power and you wouldn't lose hidden status for the power.

But since it's a move action, you have to finish it before you attack -- and when an action causes you to lose hidden status, you lose that status at the end of the action -- before you make your attack. So no CA for you.

For combat advantage, you want a power like Aspect of Speed, which lets you move and attack as part of one action, thus keeping the benefits of being hidden for the attack.

Twin Step... teleport 8 squares, move action, then teleport 8 squares at the end of turn as a free action. Got it.

Okay.

If you were hidden at the beginning of the turn, and your actions were:

Twin Step (move action)
Attack (standard action)
Twin Step 2 (free action)

Then what happens is this.

If you Twin Step into a square that does not offer concealment or cover, you lose the hidden status at the end of that teleport, and cannot get it again during that teleport. This means that for your next action, the attack, you do not have combat advantage.

Furthermore, the second Twin Step is not a move action, so you do not get to make a Stealth check to become hidden at that time.

Lastly, you're an avenger. Why aren't you adjacent to your target with no enemies adjacent? Twin Step is better for persuing a hard to approach target, than for stealth tricks. Avengers have -better- ways to do that.

Rogue M/C Avenger, taking the Twin Step utility at level 22 as it gets me into position for and out of a close blast combo I have.

Whirlwind Sneak attack tied to Steel Entrapment, then AP to repeat.

Twin step lets me get in there to do it, and out again.

Plus I thought a nice little minor action dance around them - free action Na-Na-Da-Na-Na and stab one of them before I leave - is Tumbling Strike.

What you want then, is something that can get you in and attack in the same action, and then use the move to get out. That'll allow you the stealth you want.

I think I have found it, while trying to find a decent head item.

Found something that lets me swap inititive rolls with one of my party, that should let me get this off at the start of battles using First Strike.

Otherwise Cloak of Invisibility could do it, but that burns a daily.

Grrrr. its a daily

Well, yeah; swap initiative as an encounter would be kinda broken.

More usefully, have you thought of setting this up with a friend?

If, for example, you had a cleric with Astral Flare, or an Invoker with Lightning Spike, acting as a "fluffer", you could gauruantee combat advantage on a largish number of enemies without burning a daily.
