Trailer Backrooms

Labyrinth would also be a fun one to use, especially if you have someone playing it as well, since that will cause the passages to change each turn.
It wouldn't just be the space inside the Backrooms that would change each turn. In The Backrooms movie, time inside of that place was non-linear. It might send you into the past or the future like it did with Clark.

What makes you say he time travelled? We don't know how long it was before he called his therapist or she went in after him. And he clearly had to sleep at some point, but he wasn't sleeping a lot, so his condition being off was likely largely due to his sleeping habits and what he was eating and drinking. (I don't know what that stuff was, but I'm not eating it.)

There are a number of YouTube shorts that show some temporal discrepancies. For instance, the Still Life version of his wife, who ran out of the kitchen while clutching her head was the same Still Life entity Clark ran into in the room with the Christmas tree on his first day in the Backrooms. Also, on his first day in the Backrooms, he comes a pair of sandals and pair of shoes embedded in the floor. These pieces of footwear were later seen being worn by his two associates on their first and only day in the Backrooms.

Lastly, it's quite likely that like people and places within the Backrooms, the Backrooms is also misremembering when certain things happened.

That counts against it being time travel, in my book. The Backrooms could certainly have spotted Kat and her boyfriend previously and incorporated them into its structure.

In any case, while I know the lore of the Backrooms -- like a lot of youth culture* -- is super important to aficionados, I think it ultimately doesn't matter for this movie. If Parsons gets to make more in the series, like he wants to, maybe it'll come up and matter then.

* The amount of Sonic the Hedgehog lore my youngest knows is astonishing. Now I know how my parents felt when I inhaled the AD&D books.

IOW, The Backrooms are a hallucination of the AI running the simulation in which beings from higher dimensions have created/placed us.
There are a number of people living today who believe that everyone in RL, including us, is already living in a computer simulation. That would make the Backrooms a simulation of a simulation.

Aside from the possibility of the Backrooms being a simulation of a simulation, it could also be a Broken Reality. In such a reality, one or more of the laws of physics that exist in RL isn't working like it's supposed to.

Hmm... if the Backrooms existed in the D&D multiverse, would it be a plane or demiplane in its' own right, or would it be a layer in said plane? And if the latter, which plane?
