BG3 has also made new players way more creative in the way they approach scenarios (often but not exclusively combat); largely because of the things that the most purist tabletop fans complained about (height advantages, barrelmancy, in general utilizing the environment more, etc.).

Pre-BG3 my biggest problem with new players was getting them to engage with the space beyond "I walk up and hit it". My post-BG3 new players do not have that problem.
The moment new RPG players realize they're not on rails -- however they get there -- is the moment it all changes. I got to see that light bulb going on for players a few times this past summer and it's such a thrill.

Something similar here.

Newbies incoming who haven't played 5E but have played BG3 are a bit more skilled than complete newbies. They understand builds up to a point. Newest player she built a bladelock fey warlock no help. Effective as well.

More likely to use skills as well.

Personally for me it was interesting to see advantage rolled, guidance linking in and we modded it to 5.5 and seeing that new fighter skill thing in action.

5.5 mod party plus X3 hit points and advanced AI honor mode

Bladelock Gith Warlock (primary tav)
Gale (lore bard)
Sorcerer King Warlock (secondary tav)
Wyll ( holow warden ranger)

Currently 5th lvl. Reached Gith creche.
