Belhandra, Lady Allure

BOZ

Creature Cataloguer
ok, since this one was my idea, i whipped this up. :) anyone care to add to this, according to the format established with Omata and Pharael? :)

i need some ideas for her history, and some ideas on how to make her generally more useful (in interest in magic perhaps?)

Belhandra is a feminine power that concerns herself with all things having to do with beauty and sensuality. Belhandra appears to be a half-elf in her true form; she is a tall, graceful woman with long black hair, a pale cream complexion, and strikingly blue eyes. She can appear as a female of any humanoid race, but is always astoundingly attractive. Despite her beauty, her friendly and kind attitude ensures that there are few who would find her intimidating or threatening.

Belhandra is a true hedonist. Her creed is that the only way to truly enjoy life is through the physical pleasures, the pleasures of the flesh being foremost among them. One cannot help but notice her sensual qualities when meeting her in person. But more than that, she advocates excess of all types, within reason; food and drink, games, and of course lovemaking. But, Belhandra is not as irresponsible as one might assume. She also assures her followers that these things are best kept as a reward for those who have earned them.

She makes her home on the plane of Elysium, in a great mansion of seemingly unending rooms. Each of these boudoirs is filled with lush furnishings; lace curtains, beautiful carpentry, and most importantly, large comfortable bedding. Attending many of these rooms are male servants possessed of notable comeliness, of various humanoid races. Humans, elves, nymphs, and certain guardinals are among her most common followers. Belhandra keeps an audience with Henali Celanil of the elves, and the nymph goddess Verenestra, whom she considers sisters.

Belhandra’s symbol is the outline of two lovers in an embrace.

Hmm... She could be the patron of female bards, sorcerers, and wizards. (I.e: With an interrest in arcane magic, specifically of the abjuration, enchantment, divination, and illusion schools.)

Mind you, that it is only a Suggestion. ;)

Second retake on this post :) Belhandra, in my opinion, is close on being a fullout inexcess hedonistic type (why stop at an artificial line when you can experience it ALL!) -- if it weren't for her acknowledgement that it's bad to be totally inexcess with disregard for, I suppose, other people's or your own health. She is NG :)

The above quote from Boz, for some unknown reason, took me a while to mull over. Probably because it wasn't specified on what had to be done to earn that reward; Boz didn't state the 'goals' so I was a bit confused. Hush, it's late :p The ability to indulge in hedonism as a reward (and not all the time or for its own sake, which is why she wouldn't be CN or NE) could be a reward of just 'being' good in alignment; you killed the dragon and looted it's hoard, now let loose the tap and the whores! Or in other words, you work hard, and you get to play hard. It could be a spin of the traditional view that hedonists are lazy and just seek pleasure mindlessly.

As for enemies, perhaps an elder brother who is the negative qualities of a hedonist. Fat, lustful; his appetite for sensation (food, women, gambling) knows no bounds.

Whoops. Sorry; what I posted above contradicts your statement of her. I should mention now that this is my take on it, though it is still your creature :)

EDITED EDIT

One more - may I ask why a NG was a better choice then a CG? As a hedonist it might make more sense, unless there's a schtick about her :)

A more detailed response

Because Omata looks quite fleshed out and Pharael hasn't been replied to yet

Titles
Felicity, The Lady of Bliss, The Raven Woman, Maiden of Pleasure

Allies & Enemies
Allies are other powers who appreciate beauty and new sensations, ranging from gods who have such pleasant qualities in their portfolios to similar stationed beings whose views complement each other such as Lyeskela, Elven Lady of the Rose. More personal views are taken on beings who interest her, such as Obaltor, Prince of Chivalry, who steadfastly declines her advances.

Enemies are powers whose portfolio directly conflict with hers - diseases, pain, hatred, wanton destruction and chaos; all which is opposite to beauty and pleasure. Her worst enemy though would be:

Options
  • Her older sibling, Aralaux. He is self-indulging and arrogant who seeks nothing more then the infinite excess life has to offer him. Food, wine, women, gambling, he is the personal antithesis to Belhandra.
  • The Archdevil Mammon, the epitome of greed and lust.
  • The Demon Prince Socothbenoth from Armies of the Abyss, lord of sexual perversion among many, many others.

Relations To Mortals
Belhandra is quite aware of the the mortal races. From the artistic elves to capricious humanity, they provide a constant source of worship and revelery. In a cyclic fashion the mortal races undergo new experiences and discover beauty in the world time and time again, which Belhandra can feel. As a patron of popular subjects, her name is said often. Lovers whisper her name in a quick prayer for an amazing night, bards use her as an allegory in their poems to describe a perfect beauty, and artists plead to her for inspiration in creating their next masterpiece. The side effect from all this activity is as if she has been elevated to the status of a muse; but not quite.

Followers
Lovers; artists who create things of beauty such as painters, sculptors, or poets; people who like to experience new things whether shy or outgoing; creatures of astounding beauty or sensuality, fey being one of the most common (satyrs, dryads, nympths, nerieds)

Symbols
To youthful teenagers, her emblem of two lovers embracing is often shortened to a heart. People who need her blessing for a day wear red, the color of passion, in their attire. Those who don't wish to seek attention in the fact that they require Belhandras blessing often have a red handkerchief in their pocket.

History
Don't know, too tired. Ack!

lol wouldn't be the first time i've contradicted myself... guess i'll have to rewrite it a bit. that stuff was all off the top of my head. i added the "reward only" line after some thought.

i'll look at your other comments when i'm a little less tired myself. ;)

Sorry :) I just plugged a few words into the Thesarus and that pooped out. I'm not sure if it fits though, aside from the analogies to a certain brunette :), since it means a state of being happy and doesn't really have any relation to Bel ... and Boz eeked at it. :/ :p :) :D

Azure Trance: Nice touch adding a reference to Lyeskela, Elven Lady of the Rose (Mine, yay! :D).

Also, if boz makes her the patron of female spellcasters, it fits with Azure Trance's suggestions as many people consider magic an artform (particuallarly bards and wizards).

Late,
