Bladesong Question?

Exactly how long does the Bladesong power last? I see that the effects last until the end of your next turn but does the power itself last until you don't meet the requirements?

The reason I ask is because if it only lasts until the end of your next turn then the level 7 Steely Resort and the level 11 Choir of swords seems kind of circumstantial.

I mean I would have to activate Bladesong, use it, spend an action point to use Choir of Swords and then hope that someone attacks me to use my level 7 power.

Hmmm maybe I am asking for too much.

Yep, that sounds right to me. It pays to use it when in positions where you are likely to get hit. Even one counter attack is great, a free MBA is nothing to sneeze at.

The Bladesinger I am mucking around with is highly likely to be hit, he runs into the middle of a group of monsters, uses bladesong and bloodmagic, uses a burst 2 Bladeling attack (now at an extra +2to hit +2d10+5damage), then action points and uses the bloodmage Burst 2 attack (with lovely bonuses), which also adds 10 ongoing damage.

If he is not the center of the enemies attention after that, it is because the enemies are dead or his defender is a god of war.

I was thinking about going with the Blood Mage but I can't decide if I want that or the Bladesinger path.

It was a pretty close call, but I really think that Bladesingers are built to be masters of AoE spells, but are throttled into only using them as daily powers. It is frustrating looking at that dangled carrot, just out of reach. The Bloodmage provides a great AoE spell at low level, its lvl 11 AP power is great with AE as well.

What sold me was the ability to get Bladesong a second time during an encounter for the cost of a healing surge.

For people who are not Bladelings of Humans it is a closer call, but for either of those races, they get a little more AoE so I think Bloodmage really pays off. A human with an extra at-will AoE that can be used with bloodmagic and Bladesong is pretty nice.

I have also had a play around with an Eladrin Bladesinger with the cheesy 2xmulti-class background. Key features were:
- Swordmage multi-class +3AC for an entire encounter
- Eladrin Swordmage Advance (free MBA on feystep)
- Fighter Multiclass -> Suprising Charge but this was not needed
- Paragon feat Feycharger (i think) to let you use feystep as part of a charge, if you hit, you don't expend it.
- Cunning stalker if needed for CA, but Bladespell gives it most of the time.
- Whitelotus Repoiste + Masters Whitelotus Repoiste

So teleport-charging for +1[w] with an extra free MBA. When you have hit somebody and they hit you back, they take ~5 damage and a MBA (I think as a free action, can't recall exactly, so it stacks with the Bladesong Repoiste)

Anyway, no idea why I was babbling about that, it was pretty off-topic sorry.

How were you able to get Bladesong a second time by spending a healing surge?

I'm also not understanding how the Blood Mage gives you a low level AoE when it's a Paragon path.

Sorry I have been playing too much epic tier. It is not low level, it is level 12, after a while that gets regarded as "low level".

If my memory serves I think it is a level 16 bloodmage ability that lets you spend a healing surge to refresh an encounter power. I don't have it in front of me.
