Eh. If you are collecting answers from 20K people, doesn't hurt to ask them to pick their top 3 and rank them. If you don't feel like doing the work, you can always ignore the 2nd and 3rd choices and only look at first choices.

Sorry for beating on this dead horse. I dream of the day RCV becomes so normalized that people look at you funny if they are asked to choose just one thing instead of choosing at least 3 and ranking them (or they just respond with their top 3 in order).

RCV for popularity polls disinclines many to participate.
I don't mind RCV for filling political offices, because it means I don't have to vote for one of the top 2 if I want my vote to matter...
but in checking popularity, it just makes me mistrust the results because they no longer reflect what's felt to be best, but on some algorithm that may or may not be disclosed, may or may not be implemented correctly, and may or may not count my preferences correctly.

Unless you're using a variable points counting, where say, First choice is 3, second is 2, 3rd is 1... but even then, it raises trust issues.

Yeah, but I think so many options that are write-ins means that there are going to be things that would have been high on the list that will not even rank.

He already mentioned what popular write-ins were, apparently PF1 and PF2 because people did not like them being grouped together and he added those to the PF pool. I don’t see why he could not break out a sufficiently popular write-in choice when he essentially did just that for PF already.

I doubt any write-in was popular enough to make the top 20, otherwise we would have seen it in it and Bob would have mentioned it

and more importantly many people’s only game they actually played and/or read, so if they even fill in a second choice, that becomes mostly noise

I agree that the entire poll is kind of meaningless. You can even vote more than once!

Probably true regarding the first part when applied to the general populus, but maybe or maybe not for Bob's audience or the people who answered Bob's poll. Bob loves talking about DCC, Shadowdark, and other games that were listed in the poll. So who knows. Results might have been surprising.

It's really long, so long, some responders filled in a game that was on the list because it is easy to get lost in the numbers. It wouldn't be practical for Bob to include every game in existence. That's why there's a space to write in your favourite.

It's just a fun poll. We all know what the top games will be anyway. And however the poll shakes out, it has no bearing on your favourite. I'm not going to feel less about my beloved Riverbank game that's getting no love, by the way! Shameful.

There are other ways to solve that problem

Everyone knows what would rank as number 1 and 2. What I personally find interesting is identifying 3 through 10.

Even then did 75% of options have to d&d or d&d retroclone? Would it kill to give WoD or Warhammer more than 1 each? Or not to mock VtM fans in his video after treating WoD like an afterthought?

Also, why are DC20 and Goblinz on the list when neither game is even out yet?

Yea, I agree. Non published games shouldn't have been included.
