RCV for popularity polls disinclines many to participate.Eh. If you are collecting answers from 20K people, doesn't hurt to ask them to pick their top 3 and rank them. If you don't feel like doing the work, you can always ignore the 2nd and 3rd choices and only look at first choices.
Sorry for beating on this dead horse. I dream of the day RCV becomes so normalized that people look at you funny if they are asked to choose just one thing instead of choosing at least 3 and ranking them (or they just respond with their top 3 in order).
I don't mind RCV for filling political offices, because it means I don't have to vote for one of the top 2 if I want my vote to matter...
but in checking popularity, it just makes me mistrust the results because they no longer reflect what's felt to be best, but on some algorithm that may or may not be disclosed, may or may not be implemented correctly, and may or may not count my preferences correctly.
Unless you're using a variable points counting, where say, First choice is 3, second is 2, 3rd is 1... but even then, it raises trust issues.
