These things, from MoF say that you have to enchant them as if they were a double weapon (and so pay twice the cost). But can't you just enchant one end of a double weapon and then just use that end?

If you are a monk, having one fist enchanted is as good as both (since you are not doing the whole primary/seconday hand thing for your flurries).

well, since you have to enchant them as double weapons, but you don't treat them as double weapons for combat, then i would say that only having one enchanted bracer would have either no effect or only work intermittently.

It does say you pay only twice as much for the optional enhancements.

Sword and Fist has a similar item, Amulet of Might Fists, and they cost three times the cost of an equally enchanted weapon. I'm surprised that this was not corrected or changed in the errata.

Absolutley, even if more spells aren't used, the power of the spells and the amount of components needed would add to the cost I would gather.

If you have one of these "fist" enchancing items, what happens when you use your "flying kick" feat (or tiger leap sandals). Is all of this "fist" vs "kick" just flavor text, or can you actually not use the benefits of one with the other?

IIRC, Bracers of Striking can only add special weapon properties, and not enhancement bonuses. Since Monks need the real enhancement bonus, bracers of striking are cheaper than Amulets of Mighty Fists.

regarding that, bracers of striking have always inspired one thought for me; throwing and returning.

No, the Bracers of Striking state they can be fully enchanted (read: given an enhancement bonus, an specific enhancement powers/abilities), as though they were a blunt double-weapon.

As for why you HAVE to use both (in response to an earlier poster's question): A monk doesn't use ONLY one fist -- if he even uses fists. Mechanically, it's one attack. In the abstract, it's a couple alternating punches, an elbow smash or two, a kick, maybe a knee-smash, etc, etc, etc. Even moreso when using Flurry of Blows.

The Bracers of Striking affact ALL your unarmed attacks -- yes, including kicks.

The real trick would be to wear a high-bonus Amulet of Mighty Fists ... and a low-enhancement, lots-of-powers pair of BRacers of Striking at once. Get all the cheesy goodness a fighter can with a Greatsword +1 of Laundry List after the cleric casts GMW for him ...

Impact (increased threat range), Impact (+2 damage), Ghost Touch bracers are very nice in combo with any amulet of mighty fists :) ... as soon as they are both +3 or equivalent it's a lot cheaper.

Ok, so I get these Bracers and enchant them as a double weapon. I make one +1 Flaming and the other +1 Frost (like I could do with any double weapon). Then I do a flying kick, what type of energy damage does my opponent take?
