Buffyesque horror movies

I have Netflix and need other things to get besides Buffy and Angel so I was just wondering if anyone could point me towards some good Buffyesque horror films.

Van Helsing is horror-action. Very reminiscent of Buffy.

How about Hellboy? Same adventure-with-supernatural-trappings style.

First to be Buffyesque the movie requires a plot. Which Van Helsing had none of. Hellboy was good though.

Van Helsing did have a plot. Though a very basic and simple one. Kill the vampires, protect the girl. Survive to tell about it. Twas a popcorn movie, nothing more.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a fun movie too. Not very in depth, but fun. Break out the popcorn on this one too.

Ok LoEG was total crap. The whole sideways submarine escape pod that Dorian Grey used killed the whole movie. Plus Tom Sawyer as CIA! He's Tom Sawyer he doesn't do CIA!

If you can ever find it, an HBO Movie called "Cast a Deadly Spell" was one of the funniest darned movies I've ever watched. The protagonist was a detective named "Harry Lovecraft", it included many fantasy and Cthulhu Mythos-related elements, and had some fantastic one-liners.

HOWEVER, as far as I know it's never been released for DVD. If you ever find it has, GRAB IT faster than a Byakhee descending from space.

I don't think there's lots of comedy-horror out there like Buffy and Angel. However, if you like the writing on those two shows, get the Firefly DVD's from Netflix. The same director did that show. It's not horror, but it is very, very funny.

Van Helsing I'll agree with you on. It had a very very basic plot and was a popcorn movie. I think the only reason I liked it was because the werewolf in the movie looked a heck of a lot better than the one in the harry potter movie that I was forced to sit through a week before.

In any case have you ever seen Army of Darkness or Evil Dead 2? It's the model for Buffy and Angel. Also check out any of the NIght of the living dead series. If you like the writing style of Buffy and Angel, well you probably already know to check out Firefly.
