Character feed back

I’m very new here and I really hope I’m posting this in the right thread, but anywayI’ve been working on a new character for a 2nd edition campaign and I was wondering if I could get some thoughts and feedback on it.

My DM is being very liberal with the rules for me and since I’ve never made one or played one I want to make a female tiefling. Being the nice guy that he is my dm is pretty much allowing me to choose how it appears. We are also using a hybrid of 2nd and 3.5 edition so I have allot of things open for me to work with. So far I’ve had too many ideas to count and id be great full for any help.

I have decided I want to make her a mage/thief since I really enjoy playing mages but I wanted to try something a bit different for me. I really like the idea of a sorcerer/thief who grew up in a bustling city but with no one to take care and provide for her turned to pick pocketing and burglary. She eventually started developing magical skills and begins to train herself to use them along with her thieving skills. I eventually want her to get a familiar, and I don’t really know why but I want it to be a toad.

I kind of want her to be a super charismatic, energetic girl who gets on the party’s nerves. I think it would be interesting if during combat she was always torn between using her melee skills or her magic. My main problem is that I believe that it would conflict with the tiefling nature for her to not really be a loner.

My idea for her may be a bit odd I suppose but I usually try to make unique characters. I try to stay away from clichés if I can but sometimes they are cliché because they just work well. Oh well, anyway that’s all I have for now.

Can you state concisely what you are looking for, and all relevant rules that we will have to know? Use bullet points if necessary.

Well mainly I'm looking for any tips or idea anyone has towards developing the character. Secondly I wouldn’t mind knowing how you’d feel a character like this would contribute to the party and how you believe you would react to such a character. Like I said I've never played a character like this before and id greatly appreciate any tips on role playing as her.

Well, as a rogue/mage, you contribute via sneaking around, finding traps, and casting spells that your allies would find useful. Depending on exactly how you build it, you might be able to fight in melee as well.

I'm sorry I can't help you more, but it's rather like telling someone how to play piano over the internet when you're a physicist who studies harmonics.
