Cocks says more D&D crossovers are coming.

Chris Cocks says that more crossover products are coming from the D&D team. Speaking with GamesRadar this week, the Hasbro CEO confirmed that more D&D crossover products were in the works, citing the success of Magic: The Gathering. "I don't want to take away any headlines from the D&D team," Cocks said, "but I think you can definitely expect more crossovers inside of D&D. I mean, we've had such a fantastic experience with [crossovers] with Magic: The Gathering. D&D is a fantastic play system that I think is very open ended. You already have a fairly wide spectrum with things like Spelljammer to Curse of Strahd. So you already kind of have the DNA for it handled inside the system. So, yeah [...] You should expect more of those."

Wizards has dabbled with crossover products in the past, with multiple Magic: The Gathering campaign setting books, a Critical Role adventure campaign and setting book, and boxed sets featuring Stranger Things and Rick & Morty. While Magic: The Gathering has a more robust crossover lines called Universes Beyond, most of the IPs involved already have bespoke tabletop RPG games of some kind, so looking to that line might not be a firm indicator of what's coming for D&D. We'll note that Hasbro recently entered into a licensing deal with Harry Potter and has also dabbled with the ultra-popular Fourth Wing romantasy franchise, so those could be where D&D could be looking for future crossover products. However, that's pure speculation on our end.

I'm so glad it didn't catch on. While they get more expensive each year, the big reason I went with the prepaints was that I didn't have to assemble and paint the damn things. I've got enough on my paint table as it is - and lot of it 20+ year-old metal minis that fall apart if I look at them funny.
Understood. But for some people, assembling and painting their mini's is almost like an entirely new hobby in and of itself. Sure, they can use the mini's to play on a battlemat if they play in real life, but they actually enjoy the assembling and painting part.

On this whole mini subdiscussion:

If I already didn't have piles of 3D models, the acrylic tokens that are available would have been the path I wish I'd gone - the colored art looks great and being flat makes them much easier to store.

Also, count me in as one of those individuals burned by GW's rule churn - I am so glad D&D rulesets have lasted as long as they have for each version, and hope that trend continues.

I think my whole point is, who decides that? And if (as it sounds like) most of these would be optional setting or expansion books, then that's fine, the people at the table decide. Just don't buy those books if you don't want to use them.
Is it the customer or the market as a whole? If they make Transformers, how many people will put Megatron in Ravenloft? Optimus Prime in Dark Sun? Sound Wave in Dragonlance? Star Scream in Grayhawk?

Yeah. And D&D player's were complaining a 'new edition' (5.5e 2024) 'already' came out ten years after the previous version (5.e 2014). These people should try Warhammer. ;)
I don't recall anyone complaining 10 years was too short between editions. There is lots to dislike about 5.5E, but that's not it.

Let's remember "Evil Genius Games" has bet for the licences for its game "Everyday Heroes". Maybe WotC wants something like this.

The franchises of urban fantasy follow a different system of magic or spellcasting and this means they aren't so easy to be adapted, for example "Buffy vampire slayer" or "Charmed".

* You could be surprised if somebody dares to create a space-horror story to justife transformers in Ravenloft. Maybe those cybertronians can't reload by means of energon and then they need other thing. If you are lucky the animals of your farm may be enough. Do you remember the infernacons?

Transformers could be redesigned for a Mad Max style with a little of biopunk if you want add them to Dark Sun.

If you add transformers to Dragonlance you could rewrite totally all the time and the next generation to be rewritten according your own preferences.

It would be fun if Starcream after conquering a kingdom in Greyhawk had to defend this against an invasion of extraplanar constructs.
