Cocks says more D&D crossovers are coming.

Chris Cocks says that more crossover products are coming from the D&D team. Speaking with GamesRadar this week, the Hasbro CEO confirmed that more D&D crossover products were in the works, citing the success of Magic: The Gathering. "I don't want to take away any headlines from the D&D team," Cocks said, "but I think you can definitely expect more crossovers inside of D&D. I mean, we've had such a fantastic experience with [crossovers] with Magic: The Gathering. D&D is a fantastic play system that I think is very open ended. You already have a fairly wide spectrum with things like Spelljammer to Curse of Strahd. So you already kind of have the DNA for it handled inside the system. So, yeah [...] You should expect more of those."

Wizards has dabbled with crossover products in the past, with multiple Magic: The Gathering campaign setting books, a Critical Role adventure campaign and setting book, and boxed sets featuring Stranger Things and Rick & Morty. While Magic: The Gathering has a more robust crossover lines called Universes Beyond, most of the IPs involved already have bespoke tabletop RPG games of some kind, so looking to that line might not be a firm indicator of what's coming for D&D. We'll note that Hasbro recently entered into a licensing deal with Harry Potter and has also dabbled with the ultra-popular Fourth Wing romantasy franchise, so those could be where D&D could be looking for future crossover products. However, that's pure speculation on our end.

What? Did you reply to me by mistake? I am unsure what you are trying to say about what I wrote.
You were asking about people putting Optimus Prime in their Ravenloft.

I don't care what they do at their table with the exception that it may inspire me.

Just like I don't care that other people put bananas on their PB&J.

I am talking about the crossovers by Hasbro. Think if new novels had Soth and Unicron working together. It woukd be silly, in game and in fiction. We are also not sure which way these crossovers are going are we? Could be Soth joins Cobra Commander in a game, comic, movie, etc.

Yes, D&D is first and foremost a game that people play. The crossovers are about play experiences, with earlier 5e examples including Rick & Morty, Stranger Things, Strixhaven and others.

Rick & Morty content doesn't come to my table because I don't like. I'm happy other people like it. Strixhaven does come to my table, because it fits the stories I tell quite well. Ravenloft and Dragonlance don't come to my table because their fictions don't fit mine.

D&D is a game tens of millions of people are playing and crossovers are a way to power more play experiences.

If they are things like that, then I see no problem. If they put Megatron in a new Dark Sun, I forsee much wailing and gnashing if teeth.

More $$$ for more work. I don't mind the unpainted line they've done (as long as there are painted versions too; the unpainted are good for getting the "rare" minis cheap), but if they moved to having to assemble & prime them as well, I'm out - especially on anything Small size, like Kobolds or Goblins.
I'm not saying you should prefer and purchase the model kit minis (frameworks). If you prefer no-assembly-required minis, that's cool.

But you stated you were "glad it didn't catch on" (the frameworks kits). If you don't care for those kits, fine . . . but why wish they weren't available for the rest of us?

I don't recall anyone complaining 10 years was too short between editions. There is lots to dislike about 5.5E, but that's not it.
I do. It was definitely one of the complaints. I do think most of the folks unhappy with 5.5 focused on other things than "too soon".

Oh, they existed. When it was first suggested there would be a new edition for the 50th anniversary -- before WotC made it official -- there were a lot of screams of "too soon, WAY too soon!"
