Cocks says more D&D crossovers are coming.

Chris Cocks says that more crossover products are coming from the D&D team. Speaking with GamesRadar this week, the Hasbro CEO confirmed that more D&D crossover products were in the works, citing the success of Magic: The Gathering. "I don't want to take away any headlines from the D&D team," Cocks said, "but I think you can definitely expect more crossovers inside of D&D. I mean, we've had such a fantastic experience with [crossovers] with Magic: The Gathering. D&D is a fantastic play system that I think is very open ended. You already have a fairly wide spectrum with things like Spelljammer to Curse of Strahd. So you already kind of have the DNA for it handled inside the system. So, yeah [...] You should expect more of those."

Wizards has dabbled with crossover products in the past, with multiple Magic: The Gathering campaign setting books, a Critical Role adventure campaign and setting book, and boxed sets featuring Stranger Things and Rick & Morty. While Magic: The Gathering has a more robust crossover lines called Universes Beyond, most of the IPs involved already have bespoke tabletop RPG games of some kind, so looking to that line might not be a firm indicator of what's coming for D&D. We'll note that Hasbro recently entered into a licensing deal with Harry Potter and has also dabbled with the ultra-popular Fourth Wing romantasy franchise, so those could be where D&D could be looking for future crossover products. However, that's pure speculation on our end.

It's my understanding the Realms was Ed Greenwood's homebrew setting for his home D&D campaigns.

Forgotten Realms is a campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) fantasy role-playing game. Commonly referred to by players and game designers as "The Realms", it was created by game designer Ed Greenwood around 1967 as a setting for his childhood stories.[1]

For what it's worth.

Megatron or Starsceam would both be good Darklords. Those guys have ISSUES.
As much as I love the comedy duo they are, they're not even the most evil among the Decepticons

Put Starscream in Ravenloft and in about a week you're going to be down two Dark Powers and he'd have broken out. Put Shockwave in there and, well, you won't have a Ravenloft by the time he's done

I think my whole point is, who decides that? And if (as it sounds like) most of these would be optional setting or expansion books, then that's fine, the people at the table decide. Just don't buy those books if you don't want to use them.
It almost sounds like the "line" is some sort of barrier, maybe a constructed barrier made out of some hard material, and that barrier has a gap in it that can be opened and closed but only by a particular subset of the people who live on one side of the barrier.

🤷

We have got different options for a crossover: a fantasy franchise but the power level and magic system may be radically different, isekai but now it is too cliché, ordinary characters from the "real life" playing D&D, a sci-fi franchise where characters are playing a virtual simulation.

The IPs should be enoughly famous with brand power but not too much because the other company could ask too much. I guess here Hasbro has got enough experience for partnership deals.

If WotC is interested into the Japanese market a crossover with some manganime franchise.

"Forcellia", the world of "Record of Lodoss War" now belongs to the JRPG "Sword World".

* How would be a crossover Animula Nook-Witchlight? Or Infinity Nikki-Witchlight. Or with other cozy videogame: Heartopia.

* Bandai and Hasbro are rivals. I doubt Digimon or other IP adapted by WotC.

* Trying to justify how to combine Transformers and Ravenloft is truly ridiculous, but that's precisely where the fun lies. Maybe WotC could recycle the concept of Transformers-Pretenders. Now I doubt seriously crossovers with Hasbro IPs if now Renegade Game Studios have got the licences.

* If the crossover is a title focused into crunch like PC species or subclasses then or there are UA articles spoiliring the surprise, or publishing before only digital content in D&D-Beyond with the necessary update later.

* Now WotC's strategy is sourcebooks weren't too linked with certain setting but enoughly generic to be useful for your homemade campaign.

If they went back and did a full on Urza artefact war, I'd be tempted to pick that up. A setting which really focused on Dominaria would be cool, though admittedly it is the most generic setting they have and probably easily adapted by anyone who wants to tun a game there.
