New to the D&D Beyond Marketplace today are thirteen starter packs. These are $4.99 bundles of options for each class (and one for Eberron species). Each class pack gives access to three subclasses, two backgrounds, and seven feats (all from the 5.5e Player's Handbook), plus two species (from Monsters of the Multiverse), a Level 3 premade character and a set of DDB dice. Buying one of the class starter packs gives you a $5 discount if you later buy the Player's Handbook on DDB. The Eberron Species pack contains the five species from Forge of the Artificer (plus an obligatory a set of digital dice), and gives you $5 off the digital version of that book. Dice collectors can relax, all of the dice sets included here were previously released on DDB in some form.

The target market is clearly new players on a low budget. Given that WotC moved away from selling individual components from each release in 2023, it is interesting to see these bundles being reintroduced now.

I like the idea. Very affordable way to get into d&d if the basic rules are not enough. They don't appear to give any extra spells though.

I'm assuming that each subclass unlocks any spells specifically granted by that subclass, but you are right that it isn't at all clear if buying the Warlock Starter Pack unlocks all the Warlock spells in the PHB. The packs would certainly be more appealing if that was the case.

I asked a WotC community manager and sadly, it does not appear to be the case.

Okay, update: you do not get access to any additional spells outside of what's included in the Basic Rules which, by my rough count this morning, means one is only lacking some 40 to 50-ish spells?

We're looking into updating the FAQ about this, so thanks for asking 😄
