is there a maximum number of times combat challenge can be used to attack an opponent?

I have a monster coming up that randomly attacks an enemy within 2 squares whenever he gets hit; which means that every time he gets hit our parties fighter will end up trading blows with him until the monster randomly selects the fighter (if there's no limit).

If we had two fighters it would be even worse, the loop would continue until the monster randomly selected one and then the other fighter in exactly the right order...

Cut me some slack, RM . The limitation to one immediate action per round can be an important rule to remember. And who knows, the OP may have missed it.

As said before, Combat Challenge is an immediate interrupt. You can only take one immediate action per round. Though even after that, the -2 still applies.

Fighters DO have other uses for their immediate action, after all!

In reference to the OP's example, you also have to remember that immediate actions can't be taken on your own turn.
So if a fighter swings and hits the monster, marking it, and it reacts by smacking someone else, the fighter can't immediately punish it.

Actually, how is the monster getting these attacks?
Are they reactions?
'cos the monster is also limited to 1 immediate reaction per round.
