Controlling and Rebuking Undead

Assume the following are for a character who can rebuke instead of turn undead.

Question 1: When you sucessfully roll to control some undead, how long are the undead under your control. What happens if you control more undead than you have levels?

Question 2: When you are in an area affected by Desecrate, does that affect your rolls to rebuke/control undead?

Undead are controlled indefinitely. The character is still limited as to how many hit dice of undead he can control at once, and he may have to release some in order to command others.

A desecrated area gives penalties to turn undead, but doesn't affect rebuke/control checks at all.

All this is in 3.5. If you are playing 3.0 there might be other differences- someone else would have to clarify that.
