I need to learn how to make a proper saffron rice.

There was a tiny middle eastern grocery store & restaurant near me. The food was excellent, especially his saffron rice! The cook really knew his stuff. But he left in the middle of a renovation, and soon after, both the grocery & the restaurant closed.

There’s a new middle eastern grocery store & restaurant in that location, now, with completely different owner’s & employees. They sell a similar variety of dishes, but the recipes and cook are different.🤷🏾‍♂️

We actually have the opposite problem. Our electric stovetop’s biggest burner’s lowest setting is “Simmer”, which is hotter than I need for several dishes.

Fortunately, it’s got settings for smaller pots, so using those with a large pot helps a bit.

@payn
I just moved into a new house with a stove with a center burner like yours. Do you use it for anything? Mine is too weak for anything but pancakes and keeping food warm.

Btw, food looks great.
Thanks! Wee we make pretty extravagant meals every year on this trip and might have out done ourselves this time.

I don’t use the center burner often either. My stove is gas though and can get plenty hot.

Mine is too (Samsung), but just isn't very good. I think I'm going to slowly swap out my Samsung appliances one by one over the next few years because they all seem to under preform.

I see you have a cast iron too. I've noticed with mine if I clean it really good with hot water and warm it up again it shows smudgy, brownish spots kind of like this picture I found:

Then I wipe it with a little bit of oil and it's jet black again. Is that normal? Can't seem to find a consensus on the internet over it.

Yeap, that’s normal. Depending on use and a little oil, heat, and scrub should fix it up.
