Coolest bits of Unearthed Arcana

Hi,

I bought Unearthed Arcana when it first came out but haven't really used it. There have been several threads about "most useful" books and UA comes up time and time again. What bits do you like and use in your games?

Cheers

I use the alternate death and dying rules, something like the weapon group rules, and something like one of the alternate Metamagic rules in my Mystara game. I also made the racial paragon classes available but so far nobody's bitten. (It also uses class-based defense bonuses and, to a very limited degree, armour as DR, but neither system much resembles its UA counterpart).

For the short-term Eberron game that's in the setup stage right now, I'm definitely using the gestalt character rules (may only have three players). I'm considering the spell point system, alternate death and dying rules, weapon group rules, and a different alternate metamagic system. I'll probably throw reputation and magic level in. I'd like some spells to have recovery times as per UA as well, but the characters probably won't get high-level enough for it to matter in this game.

Oh, and I'm open to most of the class variants, though I haven't had anyone actually use one yet. I have had them use similar variants of my own devising, if that counts (it's not from so much as inspired by UA).

EDIT - failed to mention Action Points, used in both games. Of course in the case of Eberron, they're core anyway.

I use weapon groups all the time.
Most of the class variants are available and several have been used.
I also allow paragon classes and environmental/elemantal races, but they haven't come up yet.
I'm considering class based defense and vitality points for a lower magic campaign.

This book sees a lot of use.

Defense bonus

We use Defense bonus (pg 109-112) in our Eberron game. Works ok for us.

Cheers!

We allow most of the class variants and one member of the group is currently enjoying playing his Fire Domain wizard (though this particular class variant does need a little tweaking, it seems).

We have also implemented a portion of the "Players Roll All the Dice" variant with a pleasing measure of success.

I must say that I really like this book and am keen to use more of its content when the stars are right.

i will forever contend that Gary wrote the UA for his powergaming scions.

the newer edition version does some similar things.

Variant base classes & variant class abilities.
Not as-written, but as a "baseline" to help me decide what modifications I can allow for my PCs. (e.g., our Ranger hates animals, but worships the Stormlord -- so he loses Animal Companion and Wild Empathy, and gains a bonus to Tracking and some Electricity spells on his spell list).
