Current Wish List?

So what's on the old wish list factor?

1. Magic of Incarnum: I'm very surprised that they haven't supported this book more in the vein that they did with the Expanded Psionics Handbook. I think that a new magic system needs all sorts of good support, both web and print, to get a good buy in, especially if it's as variant as this.

2. High Level Fighters: What to do with high level fighters? Mages and clerics get spells of tremendous power and make Greater Weapon Specialization seem like nothing. There should be more options for high level fighters.

3. Classics Corner: Take some older stuff and update it to 3.5. Like the Dragon Compendium, it's not going to make all people happy, but it'll serve as a nod to the old days with the new system. In addition, very popular articles that make it here might make it into a Dragon Compendium.

4. Incursion II! The githiankai incursion event was awesome. One of my favorite concept issues of dragon ever. I'd love to see another event like this.

5. Tools: More maps, tempaltes, counters (standing counters would be better than flat ones), stat blocks for commonly summoned monsters in removable cards, "pre-rolled" stats to get the game started, etc...

6. Player Advice: What should the hyperactive player be doing while the GM is speaking description text? How can players help advance the game? What should they do to be "ready" to play?

7. Class Act Expansions or Compleat Expansions: I like the Swashbuckler. I like the Hexblade. I like the Warlock. I like the Scout. I want to see more feats, evocations, and other cool things I can add to those classes ranging from magic items and PrCs, to role playing advice and pregenerated characters with goals that are easy to add to my campaign. I'd also like to see some specific campaign notes for the various campaign settings.

I wish they'd kill the "class pages". The "hit/miss" ratio of those pages is too low, and I consider it space that could be better spent doing other things.

is this a wish list for Dragon?

i'd like the Ecologies to be full of more info. Ecology of a blank monster... background and bibliography as to where they first appeared in the game. why. what they eat. how they reproduce. how to use them in game. gods they may worship. and so on.

i'd like to see NO NEW CLASSES. but i would like to see people do spins on the current ones. use in setting X, Y, Z and variants of how they have been used in play. or how to use them more effectively.

minis. i want to see more minis. who has them. how to sculpt your own. how to make changes to existing ones. paints to use. tips from the pros.

reviews on yet to be released items. i'd like to see a head's up from the guys who get to use the stuff before it is released. i know the paizo gang is getting a crack at some of the stuff before it hits shelves. i want to hear from them.

Let's see, my Dragon Wish List is something like this:

-No more new classes
-More psionic material
-Some incarnum material
-More converted monsters from old editions (particularly, the unconverted yugoloths from 2E which I believe are the dhergaloths, baernoloths and hydraloths...there was probably another one, can't remember it though)
-More prestige classes (without the new format)
-More Forgotten Realms material (I really miss "Faiths of Faerun")

That's about it on my list, so far.

Wow! I'm realizing now why it must be so hard to make a gaming product. The four of you have gone a good way toward illustrating that everyone wants something different... and I would only make it worse by being a fan of Eberron, not caring for FR, not caring a bit for the minis game (but still liking minis), liking new classes, still thinking the Class Acts are hit&miss, wanting more psionics, and agreeing that revamping old material is cool but not to the exception of new material.

What's to be done about that? Who's opinions get the nod?

Obviously, becoming a weekly magazine with twice the pages is the answer, but the price must be the same. ;)

Is there a solution? You still want to be accessible to new players, and even draw some in, but you don't want to ignore those that remember the "good ol' days." It seems we are all still reading the mag though. I guess no matter what we'd prefer, we've already given our endorsement. ;)

I like that.

I like that too.

Another good one.

Also:
- More Forgotten Realms material
- more of that Demonomicon stuff
- more articles along the lines of the "Plane of Shadow" or "Far Realm" features

Those look pretty good. ;)

I have heard from a Dragon editor that in the near future they're going to be changing the class acts from 11 one-page articles to 4 two-pagers, along the lines of Adventurer, Arcane, Divine, and Warrior.

As for articles I'd like to see:

Weird new magic. Not just new spells, but new twists on magic that can be fit into the current game structure. Hell, if Magic: the Gathering can come up with new mechanics every year, why can't we?

DMing advice for different tones and styles of game. We all can handle dungeon crawls. How about comedies? Political games? Horror research? Mythic quests?

More flavorful articles like the 'birth of the undead' one from October this year. That one was awesome.

More stuff by Keith Baker. His recent rakshasa article was dripping coolness from its eyelids, it was so cool.

More converted monsters.

Like Diaglo show off some miniatures from other companies. Give us a heads up on what's coming out, how to sculpt/cast our own, and how to implement them in D&D or DDM.

Every so often do a races section (like they did there for a while last year) converting over a race from previous editions. Doesn't have to be every issue, but it would help get me to buy the mag more often.

Less specific campaign centered material. I homebrew so I don't get that much out of FR or Eberron-specific material.

More psionics.

Mini-games/campaigns.

More Incarnum.
