D&D Beyond has enabled Drops content sharing for Master Tier subscribers. D&D Beyond announced the change today on their website, with all Monsters and player options available to share now and Maps content sharing coming on June 18th. Per D&D Beyond, it may take up to 24 hours for Drops content to appear if you are shared on it.

D&D Beyond's Drops content is a new subscriber-exclusive perk that adds weekly and monthly content, including spells, monsters, and player options. Wizards of the Coast originally launched the Drops content without sharing enabled, drawing immediate negative feedback from fans. Wizards claimed that it was a business decision to not enable content sharing for the Drops content, but they later acknowledged it was a mistake and said they were taking steps to fix it.

too late now… and we have no idea what revenue they generate. Too early even for WotC to tell
It's not that hard to predict...or to infer that this was probably sold to the higher ups as a positive that would increase Heroic tier subs and generate (at least) enough extra revenue to cover the expenses of developing it, laying it out, adding it to DDB, etc.

Again....why would players subscribe for Drops....

If they are DM'ing I seriously doubt Drops is the main or even considered a major draw.
Not all players who use DDB have DMs who use DDB.

For example . . . me! Both when I'm DMing or playing, none of my other players are interested in using DDB. So, as a player, the drops content is a nice value add.

I do think WotC's plan with the drops content wasn't well thought out, not in the beginning, and not now, and it will likely change before too much time passes. Was it ever going to be enough to have a significant impact on more people subscribing to DDB?

I personally was cool with the player-facing drops content being exclusive to subscribers and not shareable . . . but I also expected the whining to commence immediately, as it of course did.

It's too late now, but I don't think WotC should have enabled content sharing in the first place when DDB first launched. If players want to use options from Tasha's . . . they can purchase access to Tasha's. My players are pen-paper-book only (for the most part) and they have each purchased print books beyond the PHB like Tasha's and Xanathar's. Oh well.

Yeah I just worry that this type of stuff will ultimately result in a stagnant DDB as opposed to it continuing to evolve and advance. I also find it ironic that some of the loudest winners aren't and dont ever plan on being DDB subscribers.

sure, that was the initial plan that then hit some pushback. They will certainly get less revenue after the change than they would have before the change.

That doesn’t tell us anything about whether it is profitable or not though, and given what little these things cost, I still would expect them to make a profit, just one not as big as planned, and probably harder to measure for them.

Oh well, if in a year or two WotC cancels Drops again, I won’t shed a tear

then what do you offer for anyone to subscribe? The goal is a recurring revenue source after all, they already have one time purchases with printed books
