Well, for one thing, it is particularly well suited for Convention play by Setting. I would not want to play in a campaign, but a one-shot at a Convention sounds about right for the material.

If you want a fun party game, look up how long the wait is to get the first novel at your local library, it is extremely popular right now and the TV show hasn't even dropped yet:

I have said it before: I am baffled by its popularity. But what do I know?

that is a matter of resource allocation / priorities and of available resources. Matt (C.) seems to have his own ideas about how to run things, they are also not trying to be in FLGS and rather sell direct

In my current situation, living in Canada, I don't buy across the border. Granted Canada is 10 times smaller than the US, but having the books at the local stores would be nice.

Darrington Press has a distributing hub in Canada. Might end up buying Daggerheart if they keep supporting it as they do.

Are you baffled by the popularity of The Hunger Games? Because if you look past the RPG trappings, Dungeon Crawler Carl has some significant genre similarities to that series.

Honestly, I just don’t get litRPG. I get (and love) portal fantasy, but legit listing characters' stats and stuff in the novel is... not for me.

it’s not like they prevent FLGS from ordering their stuff, so if you are lucky maybe yours has it (not likely though), they just spend no effort getting it into FLGS. No idea about distribution hubs

I'm int he same boat: tried the first book, just not for me. Respect that Dinniman is living his best life and thst it is making people happy, just doesn't scratch the itch for me.

But to bring it back to GenCon, the whole setup feels like some sort of absurd 1970s tournament set up by Gary Gygax, so I can really see the game as a great convention one shot. Daggerheart, to keep this on topic somewhat, feels like a great long term campaign setup, so I'm not sure it would be where I would go for a convention choice.

I have run Daggerheart a bunch at cons and it works great. The ebb and flow of hope and fear is a thing that really shines in an individual session -- especially if folks aren't worried about saving it for next time.
