Daggerheart Discussion

I am very surprised that the preview for that is a single sheet of abilities, especially considering they are asking folks to pay for early access.
Hmm. I didn't buy it on Drive Thru, so I didn't even notice the lackluster preview.
I guess I figured it was a $10 PDF and I heard good things online - so that was enough for me to throw some cash at the project.
I can say that I've communicated with the author, who created custom domain and class cards and class specific character sheets when I requested them.

Strange question
Fungril- someday I will play daggerheart other than at a convention and fungril wasn’t an option

Has anyone tried it? Silly question but how did you roleplay 1 and did you give it standard equipment etc

One of my players played a fungril... the ability to communicate via the fungal net was an interesting bit to RP.
Yes, standard starting gear.

With just the core set is it possible to do sci-fantasy Dying Earth style?
Yes ... depending what you want or need and your comfort level with reskinning and brewing. Daggerheart has a sci-fantasy campaign frame, Motherboard, that takes the existing material and casts it in a more sci-fi-ish world. Daggerheart is a pretty flexible system in that regard.

But you'll probably find a shortage of adversaries (I'm finding I want a bigger toolbox for a general game, let alone a more focused setting), so you'll have to reskin or make your own.

Regarding making your own: DH adversary profiles are so simple that it’s actually very easy to make your own if you focus on the fiction you want to get out of them. The actual stats have a pretty small variance within each tier that’s easy to derive.

Only if you’re writing for publication do you need to worry about “properly formatted” abilities and long explanations. For home use, “Mind Flay: spend a fear, presence save or 1d4 stress” works great!

I hit my Tuesday group with a tossed together set of gargoyles, a bruiser and 2 skulks, and just focused on careening them around and generally making the combat feel dynamic while rolling dice, while telling the story of the semi-sentient maze they’re trapped in.

So no, since I have to do all the work myself. Not what I’m looking for. I’ll stay with Numenera.

Voodoo!* Hope and Fear shipping confirmation email!

*ETA: That was supposed to say "woohoo!" but autocorrect making it "voodoo" works too.
