Spoilers Daredevil: Born Again season two discussion

I'd take it a step further as well - the "White Savior" stories have been on the go for a LOT longer. I mean, you can go back to the turn of the 20th century and find white savior stories. And they continue to be made today, as seen with Iron Fist. I mean, it's not hard finding a white savior story pretty much every single year on the big screen. Blaxploitation was only a couple of decades and then it died. So, sure, Luke Cage may have had its genesis in those blaxsploitation days, but, it's not like the new version was trying to lean into the same tropes. Whereas Iron Fist jumped in with both feet and didn't even try to hide it.

I'm not so sure - the whole Hood genre of the 1990s (Menace to Society, New Jack City, Boyz in the Hood) exploited the same ghetto tropes and violence albeit they did so more as social commentary than entertainment. Still the segue with gansta rap did sell the hood lifestyle worldwide.

In the 2000s Snoop Dogg did a couple of horrors that leaned in to the genre. Tarantino uses the tropes deliberately. So I dont think its gone away, its just now much more socially aware

Hawkeye in The Last of the Mohicans (1826) is a white child raised by natives
