Deceased EN World columnist Rob Wieland among Diana Jones Award nominees

Prolific RPG journalist Rob Wieland, who tragically passed away last October, is one of several finalists for the Diana Jones Award nominees. The award will be given out ahead of Gen Con on Wednesday July 29th. Wieland, who contributed to EN World as a regular columnist, reviewer, and interviewer, was one of five nominees and the only nominee with strong ties to the RPG segment of games. The other nominees include:

• Mischief Toy Store, a games store St. Paul, MN
• Molly House, a board game by Jo Kelly with Cole Wehrle & Ricky Royal, from Wehrlegig Games
• Price Johnson, a game company executive with Cephalofair Games
• Rob Wieland, a game designer and journalist
• Trench Crusade, a miniatures game by Mike Franchina, James Sherriff, and Tuomas Pirinen, from Factory Fortress

Both Mischief Toy Store and Price Johnson were among the leaders of the game industry's response to tariffs set by the Trump administration, which were later ruled unconstitutional.

The Diana Jones Award honors the best in tabletop gaming, with nominees ranging from designers to journalists to games and businesses. The award started back in 2001, with Peter Adkison, then CEO of Wizards of the Coast, winning the first award. The award was originally a burnt copy of the Indiana Jones Roleplaying Game, with "Diana Jones" being among the only legible parts of the book. The original award was lost in transit in 2021 and was replaced with a new physical award the following year.
