You're likely talking about Upper_Krust's "Challenging Challenge Ratings" document, of which version 5 is the most up to date publically available one (version 3 was available, I think, as the appendix in Grim Tales). Version 6 also exists, but isn't publicly available at all.

Note one important thing about it. Everywhere it says "CR" in the document, read "ECL" instead. This is basically the biggest change between version 5 and 6, as far as I'm aware. CR = 2/3 ECL, by this document, if you just mentally replace every mention of CR with ECL.
Once you have this point system, then LA becomes easy. LA = ECL - HD.
