DM Seeks Monster - Help from the Group, Please

Alright,

Normally I'd just pull some rabbit out of my hat, but my imagination is failing me. I am in need of a powerful, mysterious creature to populate the dark corners of my campaign's wilderness.

The setting is an isolated, rustic mountain valley region, roughly the size of the state of Oregon. Forested, temperate mountains are the predominant terrain feature with some areas of open alpine pasture and rough hills.

What sort of creature am I looking for? Something the players can glimpse. Somethign that can haunt local tales and that is as elusive as is is intriguing. A tall order, I know, but my imagination just keeps conjuring undead and new types of fey.

Anybody have any suggestions or offers?

Thanks,

Eli

Are you looking for something that is actually very dangerous (magical beast or abberation, perhaps), or something just plain elusive, that if/when it is finally cornered, it will turn out to not be so dangerous at all (trickster or just curious fey, or a smaller magical beast, perhaps)?

This sounds like a job for my incredible ego!

As in, I wrote up a monster a while ago that might fit very nicely. If you haven't seen the Village, there're definately spoilers for the movie in the thread.

Behold, the Unspeakable!

Demiurge out.

Very cool,

Why do this as a Fey though. I mean, they certainly do work as Fey, but just curious about the choice. These certainly would fit the bill, though if anyone has anythign else to offer, I'm still shopping.

Thank you, Demi',

Eli

For that, if you want something at least vaguely humanoid...maybe the Shadar-Kai...I love 'em...and they get Hide in Plain Sight...failing that, Shadow template anything ya like... ;)

The wendigo from Fiend Folio is a good choice. Check this out...

Corner of the Eye (Su): A wendigo that stalks a victim while wind walking always seems to lurk just at the corner of its chosen victim's field of vision. This victim takes a -2 penalty on all Wisdom-based skill checks as long as the wendigo stalks him.

Yes, I had read the wendigo and decided that such things will haunt the remote places of my world. Heck, this thread is producing so many options that I may just go for all of 'em. Perhaps in the collective local mythology of the game world, they have sort of been lumped together as one or a few folk stories.

Ooo Wendigos, Sadly, I've never actually gotten to see teh stats for one, I know there is actually a race wendigo [Friend has it, I'll see if I can get it] but for Now Im wondering, could anyone post their stats here?
