D&D General DMing Theory #1: The Single Gauntlet

Sounds like they need to hunt down the other gauntlet. Since the DM is the one deciding to only hand out a single gauntlet if there are no clues or opportunities to track down the other half, as a player I'd be annoyed if I didn't at some point find the matching pair.

"Check out my Boot of Climbing, I can only go down though".

"My slipper of Spider Climbing lets me take one step onto the wall".

"My glove of Missile Snaring did not work, tell my family I was awesome".
Hah, joke's on you - in 1E the Slicer Beetle had the ability to sever limbs and there was a treasure table for it where you could find a single magical boot, gauntlets and the like.

@Charlaquin’s response is the correct one.

As a house rule, though, I would let a single gauntlet bump Strength up to 15. If the party wants to split them up, works for me.

If a character discovers a Gauntlet of Ogre Power and survives the passage through said Gauntlet, that character should get a nice reward. Perhaps a set of Gauntlets of Ogre Power. (Two rather different meanings for 'Gauntlet of Ogre Power'.)

You become as strong as an og, or a re. 50/50 of each. :p

In actual play, I'd only do this if I expected the players to want to find the other gauntlet. Having the one makes divinations on the other easier (depending on the spell.)
