Do you have a preferred class that you play?

I think the perfect class for me would be something akin to a Gestalt or theurge PrC combination of the Bard or Thoughtsinger with the Occult Adventures Mesmerist. There's some utility and "background" magic I can't get outside of Wizard, Witch, or Druid, but the core of what I need is all there.

I hear that. Probably my favorite PC from 3e days was my Beguiler/Wizard/Ultimate Magus. Just a fantastic mix of low-level utility to go along with high-level damage and control.

Fighter/caster combos. Starting from my first character, a Mentzer Basic Elf.

If the group needs me to Cleric I will Cleric, and often have. It's close enough. I have a soft spot for Paladins as well.

But if I don't have another particular concept I'm itching for or different role particularly suited to the campaign or scenario, you'll probably find me playing some sort of Fighter-Mage gishy combo.

Intellectuals. But rarely just smart people, usually someone you might not necessarily expect to be smart/educated in some area. In our most recently finished Runequest campaign my character was a Humakti warrior, and certainly could fight, but they were also part of the subcult which emphasises Humakt's role as a general and ended up leading an army in several battles because of their tactical skill. My Starfleet science officer was also capable of acting as Tactical Officer. The librarian I played on a CoC campaign was also a qualified pilot and decent with a gun. Etc, etc.

i've found i tend to play either straight up frontliners or mid-range skirmishers, with a preference for the former despite probably being better at the latter. i mean, i've only played a wizard once and i made a bladesinger, so that should tell you everything.

I lean towards casters, my top 3 DnD and Daggerheart classes are Sorcerer, Druid and Bard. Though outside of DnDish fantasy, I like magic, but I'll try different things.

My friend plays nothing but spellcasters as well. I think I have seen him play a martial class one time over the years, and he was awful at it.

I like to think I am open to playing any class, but I do gravitate towards clerics and rogues. I guess I really don't like doing damage.
What? Haha isnt rogue supposed to be high damage?

For me: I normally like classes with interesting unique combat mechanics. And "full casting" is not that for me and "just do basic attacks" is neither. But else it can be anything. In 4e I liked leaders especially. In 13th age its similar. 4e it vomes mostly down to subclasses. Rune knight, creation bard, stars druid.
