My "archteypical" character is a gish. In many game systems (TTRPG and CRPG) that means "paladin": the spellcasting warrior in armor... with a sword. In D&D it means many different things, depending on Edition and splat books. I just love the versatility of being a warrior with a little magic to throw around. (Which means, yes, I lean more to the martial than the magic; more "Eldritch Knight" than "Bladesinger", in 5e terms. Warrior with a fireball, not wizard with a sword.)
My second-most-common character is a cleric, because I've found that most tables don't have someone that wants to be the healer, so I tend to step into that role to fill the gap.
