That was fantastic. Utterly fantastic. I was transfixed from the first moment.

Really great acting, excellent sets and a wonderful, wonderful plot and script.

Best episode yet in my opinion; the second part looks equally good next week.

Not disagreeing with anyone here. Great start to what looks like to be an excellent two parter. Excellent acting from David Tennant, making John Smith unlike the Doctor. But my fave bits are those moments he shares onscreen with Jessica Hynes. Kudos to making the love story believable. Can't wait for next week! :)

"The Lazarus Experiment" and "42" were pretty boring and painfully formulaic, but this episode was damn near perfect. I do long for some episode that take place in more exotic locales (how about a nice alien planet for once?), but it was interesting to see this early 20th-century prep school where between arithematic and history lessons the boys learn to fire machine guns.

Of course, the cricket ball moment was great!
And I think it showed how the Doctor works in his usual self, too. (Just that we don't understand how amazing the things he does actually are, because once he puts out his sonic screwdiver, we as 21th century citizens don't really know what he should be reasonably able to do and what is extraordinary)

I am so pleased with the direction the show is taking. This episode was an excellent example of what I'm enjoying: character development. Exploring the relationship between the Doctor and his companion. And no longer using the companion as just a plot device to get captured or ask for explanations.

I'm so looking forward to part 2. And I loved finding out in the Confidential that this is an adaptation of one of the BBC Doctor Who novels. I hope they'll do more of that.
