[Dragon] Dragon 302 Fiction

Did it bother anyone else that the fiction piece is Dragon 302 was a direct rip from Fritz Lieber?

Two rogueish heroes, one tall and strong, one small and clever. Both have wandered away from home for years, mourning the loss of their beloved. They return, and meet with a strange-yet-powerful mage who is both mentor and nemesis, who sends them on a quest fo something trivial promising great reward. They fight an ancient power (and there is discussion of the gods of Ostmarch versus the gods IN Ostmarch).

Sound familiar to anyone else?

Not that I mind fiction in Dragon, mind you. The story wasn't a bad yarn. But it did feel like blatant plagiarism. (Yes, you could make the argument that ANY D&D-based story is plagiarizing from Vance, or Lieber, or Tolkien ... but that's generalizing too much.)
