I just wanted to inform those of you who haven't had a chance to check out the Dragonix's Deadly Denizens IV (5.5e) Kickstarter yet, I wanted to share something you might enjoy. I've made a 51-page sneak preview of the book available for everyone to download, completely free. Feel free to take a look and share it with anyone who might be interested.

Even if you're just curious, the preview offers a good look at some of the brand-new artwork, the updated 5.5e statblock format, and the overall presentation of the book. It should give you a solid idea of what to expect from the finished product.

Deadly Denizens IV July Art Preview #2: For July's second art preview, we have the Dire Knight, a heavily armored tank enforcer that fills the classic role of the quintessential evil champion in your campaigns. In combat, it controls the battlefield using a Dire Aura that prevents enemy bonus actions and reactions and disrupts spellcasting concentration, while its Dire Strike frightens targets and renders them vulnerable to its attacks. You can use this formidable boss NPC to command enemy warbands, serve as a villain's elite bodyguard, or systematically break your player party's well-oiled combat tactics.
The dire knight is one of two NPCs that will be part of the July issue.

Deadly Denizens IV July Art Preview #3: The Tigbolan (art by Von Milano) is a nightmarish fey creature that serves as a much darker, feral, and unequivocally evil cousin of the tikbalang. Unlike the traditional tikbalang, which merely misleads lost travelers, the tigbolan is a sadistic predator that stalks isolated woodland paths in search of humanoid prey. Delighting in psychological torment, it mimics familiar voices and conjures phantom sounds to erode its victims' sanity before revealing its horrifying true form.

And in case you've missed it, the Kickstarter for Dragonix's Deadly Denizens IV (5.5e) is live!

Deadly Denizens IV July Art Preview #4: The Visage Golem resembles a stone golem, but at the start of each of its turns, it randomly uses one of four visages: happy, sad, angry, or neutral. Each visage grants unique abilities, and once a face has been used, it can't appear again for the next round. The result is an encounter that constantly changes every round, forcing players to adapt.

Wouldn't that concept work better with a more standard humanoid body, with only two arms and two legs, and thus "facing" only one direction? The way it's depicted above, it seems like it would have the same four faces constantly in use, each in a 90-degree arc, with the rotating neck merely deciding which face faced which direction each round. And which face gets to decide which way it moves each round?

Valid point. So is this better? :)

Absolutely. Kind of reminds me of the "Smilers" from the Doctor Who episode "The Beast Below," or the multifaced angel from an episode of The X-Files called "All Souls." (Or the Living Tribunal from Marvel Comics' space epics.) I imagine battling one of these guys would be a memorable experience.

Deadly Denizens IV Aug Art Preview #1: The Bruxa Hag is August's first art preview! Hailing from Iberian folklore, the bruxa is a nightmarish, vampire-like fey that stalks the fringes of rural settlements to feed on the blood of infants, children, and pregnant women, out of a spiteful envy of mortal fertility. Using dark magic, she slips into locked homes and incapacitates her victims before sinking her fangs into their jugular to drain them.
