A Mystic Arts Monk cast Absorb Elements on the Dungeon Masters stream promoting this book, but Absorb Elements isn't on the spell list. I'm sure this is just as concerning to everyone else. I only looked because my Artificer player asked about Absorb Elements and also Vortex Warp... Sorry buddy, have this Dueling Ground spell instead. It sounds pretty metal at least!

The official stance is that spells and other options from original 5e are still valid as long as no 5.5 option did change them.

So there is no need for every single spell and option to come back since they are still there.

They reprint the basic options in PHB to make sure you can just play with just the new 3 books, but there is no need to reprint 5e options which are still fine, like many of thr later subclasses.

I'd like to use Arcana Unleased but my gaming group is resistant to make the move to 5.5e. I'd have to negotiate a treaty to use 5.5 characters. We are mid-campaign now anyway. Depending on when we fire up after this one I may make a stronger case.

"Dueling Ground" is one of the new spells . . . this must be for mage duels, right? The old 3rd edition "Magic of Faerun" had rules for these non-lethal contests of arcane prowess, and some suggestion that priests of Azuth would referee, if I recall correctly. Terrific idea. Much better than throwing around actual fireballs when we have big feelings.

You say this, but how many subclasses which were "fine" are going to get reprinted and changed? Because I think it's going to be quite a few at the current rate.

I agree with your general point but brace for WotC to deeply undermine it.

I can totally see this, you are right. This is easier than making new subclasses in the end.

In the end most the subclasses in 2014 were not perfect (even the ones I like most have some small stumbles) and 2024 did bring some changes on its own, so there is everywhere some things which could be updated (even though often not necessarily).

Also we did already saw some increase in power in some subclasses (monk one is a bit ridiculous).

On the other hand some subclasses, which kind of just dont really woek well with the 2024 changes werefor some reason not changed. (Like astral monk...)

No, it makes a safe space where creatures can try to kill each other, but once reduced to 0 hp they get teleported out and become stable. Upcast for additional creatures

Hmm. Well, I suppose that would still work for mage duels, and your clerics of Azuth could be the ones who are always encouraging feuding magi to take it outside.
