Dungeons & Dragons announces new reference cards for spells, magic items, and monsters

Wizards of the Coast plans to release 8 boxes of reference cards for Dungeons & Dragons 5.5E later this summer. The new D&D Reference Cards will contain references for magic spells, magic items, and monsters. Spell decks for Level 0 (Cantrips) through Level 5 will be released, with each deck containing two levels' worth of spells. The magic item reference decks will be split between common and uncommon items and rare and very rare items. The monsters will be split into three different categories - "Animals and NPCs", "Mystical and Menacing", and "Fearsome and Ferocious". The spell decks will cost $19.99 and the other decks will retail for $24.99. The decks will be released on August 18th.

D&D reference cards aren't unusual - Gale Force 9 released a series of popular reference cards for 5E a while ago. However, these are the first released specifically by Dungeons & Dragons, and each card also uses official artwork pulled presumably from the new 5.5E core rulebooks.

I mean, you can buy the sets, as a group of players, and split the cards among yourselves, per class. Just like you do when you buy pineapple pizza during a session. Split the cost.

Now I can finally continue hoping again for a localization print run into the other translated 5.5 languages so that I can get my spell cards in German for better immersion during gameplay

Thanks Thierry-Advent , but I'm much more interested in Denito's game. It sounds like the characters speak German, so I'd expect some bratwurst und brot (and that drinkable B word) during sessions. For better immersion!

I wonder if these cards will actually contain the full spell text or at least a usefully abridged version this time around. The Gale Force 9 cards left a lot to be desired on that front.

...yeah, my gale force 9 cards ended up warming the back corner of my bookshelf after realising that i still needed to reference the original sourcebook anyway...i do like hit point press' tarot-sized lenticular spell cards, but they make the new 5.24 cards look refreshingly affordable by comparison...

And, of course, people can make their own in any pc software... what you are paying for here is the time savings, quality, and design and then only if you like the quality and design.

It's not a blocker for anyone to play the game and is completely optional, so I think it's weird that people are framing the cost as such.

Speaking as a Retailer, these are priced quite fairly and we will be selling a ton of them. They are also absolutely great for a customer who asks what to get a D&D Fan for their Birthday/Xmas. The kind of thing that you might not buy on your own, but you absolutely will have a use for!

That ship has sailed only in so much as those cards have already been made. Gale Force 9 made them.
