Actor Joe Manganiello is heading up a line of Dungeons & Dragons products featuring creators like Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, and RA Salvatore telling new stories in the settings they're best known for.
Wizards of the Coast has announced Dungeons & Dragons Icons, a new product line launching next year. Manganiello will serve as the Chief Creative Officer of the line, which will feature adventures and stories set in Greyhawk, Dragonlance, and The Legend of Drizzt. Luke Gygax will also participate in the new line, heading up Greyhawk material. The first book of the Dungeons & Dragons Icons line is Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen, a new adventure featuring Drelzna that will be released in 2027. Manganiello, who has worked for D&D in various capacities as an ambassador in the past, has also teased a new Death Saves campaign setting that may be tied to the setting. More information on Death Saves will be announced at Gen Con on Friday.
The new line of products (and it's unclear whether this is limited to Dungeons & Dragons game products or novels as well) seems to be the culmination of an initiative to bring several high profile creators back into the fold. Gygax previously announced at Gary Con that he was working on new Greyhawk game material, and Hickman and Weis also stated they had visited D&D headquarters earlier this year. The D&D Icons line also seems to be a direct response to criticism about 5E books tied to classic campaign settings that seemed to stray too far from classic game material.
