Another new Dungeons & Dragons game is coming out in 2027. At Gamescom, Dometu and Homo Ludens announced Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern, a new management sim game. Players will take on the role of an entrepreneur that takes over a dilapidated tavern, transforming it into a bustling hub for adventuring. Players will be in charge of hiring, crafting recipes for food, and decorating the building. If customers are happy, they can be sent off on quests to retrieve new ingredients for future rare recipes. The game is set in the Dalelands, and will feature Minsc and Boo as adventuring patrons. Volo will also eventually travel to the tavern to write a review.

Dungeons & Dragons has several games planned for launch in the next couple of years. The most notable of these is Warlock, a new video game set in Ravenloft that features a warlock exploring the realm of Darkon. Gameloft Montreal is also developing a survival sim game set in the Forgotten Realms. Several other D&D video game projects were announced but cancelled while still in development, most notably games by Starbreeze and Giant Skull.

I tried to warn you; but did you listen? Noooooo...

I don’t think this relates to this.

I'm not sure where the line is between broadening the appeal of your brand by making multiple themes workable within it, and diluting your brand by doing something that's too far away from the core of it to make sense. I can see what they're trying to do; they announce Black Label, Dark Sun, Icons, etc. and this all at the same time. I'm not 100% sure that it looks like a coherent brand strategy, though.
It is better than how Marvel and DC treat everything as "shove down as many IPs into it as possible to show how much things people love we own"

I mean, in 2e we had Dark Sun and Planescape but also TOP BALLISTA, one of the most bonkers books even by Mystara standards, so it's not new that D&D has range.

Cosy fantasy is a very succesful genre atm. It's a good idea for DnD to go on that way.

Plus, I know groups that would not mind quitting dungeon crawling and manage a cosy tavern instead, so if it can give us rules to run such games at our tables, that could be fun.

There's something like this in Waterdeep Dragon Heist, and the Bastion rules try to cover some of this

I've seen other simulators like this but never really liked the art style so didn't try them. This could be worth a look though. I kind of like the idea of it. Sometimes you don't want to play a big hack and slash game, you just want to play something relaxing and this could fit the bill.
