I will admit I am looking forward to this book. Yes I'm probably gonna cherry pick the Baator out of it for my other 5E games, but still excited.
Yeah, it looks like OKs like a excellent resource of different from the norm D&D material, thst will still work for most D&D-ish worlds.

I don't think it will be that popular. The vast majority of people who play WoW are terminally online, and will never leave long enough to play a TTRPG. Also, in general I do not think a game world translates well to a book world, because every time you play, you will just picture a tiny world you can cross in an hour.

My tabletop game is comprised mostly of people from my old WoW guild.

Not everyone who is excited for this is a current WoW player. Some of us are former players who are looking forward to a bit of nostalgia. I personally am someone who hasn’t played WoW in many years and I’m already discussing it with my godson who currently plays WoW Classic, and who I’ve been attempting to get into D&D for a few years.

And, yes, he has expressed an interest in playing once this book comes out. But, no, he does lots of things with his spare time than just sitting around glued to his computer all day playing WoW (which I find to be a bit of an offensive stereotype anyway).

I think that is likely a whole lot less true than it used to be. (Used to be as in...OG Vanilla/TBC/Wrath).

Heck, my son found out that some of his raver friends play WoW casually, its a different thing now, unlike the glorious days of the Vanilla/Classic Honor Grind (oh how I miss your toxic ways!)

Yeah, since a bunch of people left/were pushed out during scandals that came out during the pandemic, the current team's philosophy is that if you only have 15 minutes to play, WoW should offer you something to do.

So there's a ton of short-form solo content, a big emphasis on world content, housing and more nowadays. You can still stay awake 72 hours trying to get a world first kill in a mythic raid, but that's a small piece of the pie nowadays, rather than being the obvious "right way" to play for PvE players.

Which is both (bad guys out) good, and a fine approach to the modern gamer who is way more diverse in terms of free time than the classic stereotype anyway.

I will say though, and I think I've mentioned before, the rampant sweaty toxicity of the honor grind is easily one of my favorite gaming periods. Both times I did it.

The only Warcraft I've ever played was OG Warcraft 3+Frozen Throne+Single Player custom maps.

Honestly, I always found it weird that they went from an RTS to a MMORPG to continue the story basically. I get the appeal of it on some level, but I'm not really a MMORPG player at heart.

But, it was interesting to see how WoW started to what it is now.

I remember when it was a big deal to finally score a mount.
