Would you mind explaining? Maybe I'm a little slow, but in no way does this make sense to me.

It's basically saying: "If I wouldn't eat this steak, I'd eat another one, so another could would have to die."
From the perspective of someone who is a vegetarian out of empathy, it's basically as if you would say: "Look, I will shoot that dog!"; then they would run up to you and say: "Don't do that!"; and you'd answer, "Okay, I won't do that ... I'll shoot that other dog instead." Then you would claim that you had saved the first dog and that the whole thing was somehow funny.

I don't know, as I said, I do eat meat. I'm fine with people posting about the food they like. But introducing it with a casually cruel joke seems unnecessary.
