Elder Evils

No one seems to be commenting on the multiple Elder Evil previews up on wizards.com. What's everyone think of them? People liked the concept in Lords of Madness, as I recall, so what's the feeling about the Big Book of Baddies?

I'm both intrigued and amused by the presence of an alternate take on Kyuss (I think of him as Earth-2 Kyuss, ala old DC Comics continuities). And Atropus looks pretty neat. Plus, the designer interview indicates a lot of authors I liked that contributed, and an obyrith Evil.

Haven't actually seen the book yet, but I'm strongly considering picking it up.

Demiurge out.

I like the concept and will be getting the book. The notion of evils barely understandable and 'beyond the pale' (like the stories by HP Lovecraft for example) has always struck a chord with me.

And the utility of taking one of the elder evil and building a entire campaign around it is great for getting the creative juices following.

Indeed.

Is there any mention of the Far Realms in the book?

Yes, but I don't know to what extend. One of the Elder Evils has a Far Realms tie in, according to the Elder Evils interview on DnDInsider.

Great. I was always hoping that the Far Realms would get some more press. With 3.5 drawing to a close, even a small tidbit will be most welcome.

Certain incanations of my homebrew world included heavy Lovecraftian influences, and I often considered the Far Realms to be a defacto D&D version of the outer void. :)

I'm strongly considering getting this book and using them as more of the Galchutt of Praemal, with the idea that not all of them reside in the location described in Ptolus. This way, I can run my players through the high level areas in the Big Book and still have a thematically linked sequel later on.
