Entangle Question

Wippit Guud

First Post
Someone once mentioned that Entangle no longer requires plants present, that the spell creates them in the area. Is that actually proven anywhere?

I notice the SRD doesn't say plants are required in the area ("Plants entwine about creatures in the area or those who enter the area, holding them fast." no mention of if pklants have to be there), and there's no material component needed for the spell.

one change that did happen from 2ed to this: druids are no longer exempt. they are entangled just like everybody else.

Although the spell doesn't specificially SAY so, I've always assumed that plants grow, lengthen, and get really really strong for Entangle to work. Basically, a tuft of grass becomes a bunch of long, green, grass-like tentacles/vines.

I've always ruled that in order for Entangle to function, you need at least a large tuft of grass at least 4 or 5 inches long. Moss or very closely cropped grass won't work.

Yes, by this ruling, a Druid COULD haul around potted plants everywhere, but the pots would all be ruined after one casting of the spell, from the plants breaking the pots as they grow...

I also assume that after the duration of the spell expires that the plants return to normal size.

Am I wrong? What's others interpretations?

Well, the spell description includes trees wrapping around people. But makes no mention of that increasing the DC of the spell. Wouldn't breaking a tree be harder than ripping up some grass?

And if it makes plants grow really really fast, why can't it create plants at the same time?

Animal Growth makes animals grow really fast. Why can't it create the animals in the first place?
