ENWorld Radio? Bring it on...

Ok. Before I have a raft of people jump on me suggsting I am being unfair or disloyal or feeling the need to list all the burdens on Smaug and Adilon... let's just get two things straight:

1) I really liked Mortality Radio and if I couldn't listen live, I always downloaded it and I really enjoyed it and appreciated the work involved in doing it; and,

2) With one abbreviated show in 6 months and a refusal to even put up some recent shows for download, its pretty clear to me that - for whatever reason - the desire or ability of either Smaug or Adilon to support Mortality Radio to return simply isn't there on behalf of its founders.

And that is my point: after six months - the reasons are no longer important: the effect is what matters. And the effect is: Mortality Radio is dead.

It's a damn shame too.

But for all of that - I would love to see some ENworlders who are so inclined - especially those who are reviewing products critically and otherwise involved in the industry as freelancers to see this as an opportunity.

Why not a once a month or bi-weekly ENworld Radio? There are a BEVY of products out there and these authors would love the exposure for interviews. I would love to hear reviews too - good bad and the ugly.

And just updating people on news from ENWorld and even bringing into the discussion some of the major interesting threads on these forums over the course of weeks/months would provide a vast and renewable source of content for discussion on the show.

Anyone else interested in this? And more to the point - anyone else interested in doing it?

The reasons ARE important.

It is not because neither want to run the show. Smaug wanted to run it on his own, while Adlon is busy BUT Adlon's work was not willing to allow smaug in just on his own.

Thus Mortality radio is on hiatus, and will continue to be so until Adlon can have his roof replaced.

As far as I am concerned, if the american government and insurance agencies had followed through on their promises after hurricane charley, none of this would have had to have happened. This is from the knowledge I have at this point in time, if anyone has other information and would like to correct me, please do.

As to should ENWorld have a radio station, of course it could, despite Mortality radio. BUT do you see people willing to provide such a service. There used to be another RPG streaming radio show, but that died a quiet death.

I agree with points from both of the above posters. As Steel_Wind was saying, regardless of the "why", the "result" is that the show has been stopped for the past six months and while the show creators may have the best intentions of resuming it some day, that certainly isn't any guarantee. Maransreth's comment that the world is big enough for more than one rpg oriented streaming radio show is also valid. Even if Mortality Radio hadn't stopped there would still be nothing wrong with the idea of ENWorld Radio.

I like the idea. Also, who's to say that it needs to follow exactly the format of the Mortality Radio show? I'm sure that there are dozens of different things that could be talked about on a rpg oriented radio show. I hope that this project idea does become a reality. I'd listen! :D

An ENworld radio? What pernicious effects it would have on the server's bandwidth?

By the way: Masranreth and SpiralBound, it has been a long time! How both of you are doing? Is it still hot (the climate of course) in Australia? Are the Matrix clothes selling well? :)

I have heard the same explanations. I must say, being a lawyer, the explanations seem difficult to accept based on the facts as listed - and doubly so as the time passes - but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

But it's irrelevant. None of that changes the fact that there IS no Mortality Radio anymore. Whether or not they choose to resume the program at some uncertain date in the future says nothing about the viability of a new show targeted at ENWorlders about gaming.

That's the point - and that is something I would love to see emerge out of all of this.

Seems to me that Mortality Radio is definitely coming back but I see no reason why there can't be another show. I doubt that the community would thumb their nose at having an extra hour or two every couple of weeks of RPG-related, radio-style programming to hear. It's hardly an overused idea or format, it's mostly opinion (plenty more of that around, juding by these boards), and I can't imagine that with the 300 plus companies pushing product it would be tough to wrangle up interviews.

I say, "Go for it, Steel_Wind!" When will you be starting? What is involved? Are you looking for on-air personalities? Are you lining up company interviews? What is your next step?

I am in this. 100% This rocks my boxers.

I loved Mortality. I understand RL gets in the way (what gamer doesn't?) but what matters is that we don't get it here and now, and that's what the audience wants, dangnabbitt! :)

So where do I go, who do I talk to, how can I sign up for this? I wants it, my precious....

Absolutely it's a great idea!

I like the idea of a "Thread of the Week" discussion in addition to interviews and roundtable-style RPG reviews with panel of reviewers. Maybe there can be an open-slot for a lucky ENWorlder to join in as part of the weekly panel. Each new broadcast could see a different poster just to get a fresh opinion in the mix.

Lots of possibilities...

Samug really wants to continue doing a radio show. Some of the logisitics probalem lie in the fact that the show was done at Adlon employer's location so his presence is required. Due to his work schedule, as I understand it, that is not currently possible. Hence the hiatus. If anyone has an alternative and would like to have Smaug involved in it, he is more than willing to discuss options based on my last email with him. :)
