Evasion Feat

I was just wondering what everyone thinks would be appropriatte requirements to make Evasion a feat? I just don't think that it is so powerful that it should only be a class ability. I was thinking of course Lightning Reflexes and prolly a +5 base Ref, but I don't know....

A Ring of Evasion is priced at 25kgp, and a guideline Ring of <Feat> seems to cost about 20kgp, so I'd buy that they're not that far apart.

Lightning Reflexes sounds like a good pre-req, but Combat Reflexes might be good too.

Base Ref Save +5 is the right ballpark -- four levels after Rogues for Bards and ... er ... who else has a good Reflex save? (Rangers get Evasion at level 9, so I don't see why they'd waste a Feat on this.) It would mean most low-Reflex people would qualify around 15th level, not too shabby.

Reflex +6 would mean level 9 for Bards, would be in the right ballpark for Rangers to qualify right when they get the class feature anyway, and everyone else would qualify around 18th level.

Aside from Bards, who's your target audience?

My target audience, is the wizard. You see, I recently purchased Lost Empires of Faerun, and wanted to create a Magelord, but I did not like the idea of having to take levels in Rogue, or some other evasion getting class to become one, even if it means delaying the level at which I could enter the class....

Combat Reflexes sounds like a good option, though I hate to admit it because that is just another feat I will have to spend to get Evasion :p

Next, what would you make as the prereqs for a Mettle feat if there was one? Great Fortitude, Iron Will, and base Fort and Wil of +5?

I don''t like the idea becasue the prestige class is designed to have one multi class to take it. Making it a feat cheats the requirements and the balance of the class.

I wouldn't allow Mettle, or any Feat that emulated it.

I haven't seen Magelord, so I can't post on how balanced it would be to allow a straight Wizard to take it around level 15... vs. stuff like the Archmage or Red Wizard, for example.

I hate the Magelord PrC. It makes absolutely no sense to me in the context of what I know of the Magelords of Athalantar, and I really don't see why a modern Magelord would have to be a rogue/wizard.

Sammael, what do you know/where did you read about the Magelords before? I have never seen anything on them before and would be interested in reading anything else about them. That having been said, I like the PrC. And I don't think that taking one feat that would make it where I do not qualify for the Prc until level 15 instead of level 12 is unbalancing, I just really didn't see why the PrC concept even needed it.

The Magelords are described in the FR novel by Ed Greenwood: Elminster: The Making of a Mage. Incidentally, this is one of the rare few FR novels I've read. I won't dwell on the text's artistic value (it has none, IMNSHO), but it does describe the society of Athalantar and its ruling Magelords in some detail.

Were they perhaps supposed to take one level of Monk? (In 3.0e, that was the easiest way to Evasion, and not too bad for saves & Feats either.)

That's a terrible idea. If you don't like the idea of multiclassing to get into a prestige class that requires multiclassing, then don't aim for that prestige class. Why not just give wizards proficiency with all martial weapons, then they wouldn't have to multiclass with fighter to get into eldritch knight? Bah.
