This is pure metal perfection - Tarja shines like never before and the rest of the band is just mindblowingly good! A show not to miss!! Metal rules!

This live dvd is also the last concert with Tarja. I wonder if it will be possible to replace her.
That lady has a Charisma of +20 at least :D

Excellent! I'll have to check that out. Nightwish has become one of my favorite bands since I discovered them a few months ago.

huh, I might check it out; honestly, I find that there are plenty of other symphonic metal bands which I like better. Of course, symphonic metal is pretty dynamic in and of itself, so I'm not too worried if I'm not into this one band that much ;)

Actually, that makes me want to listen to some right now :D

cheers,

Asmo, To the best of my knowledge, the auditions for the new singer is currently going on. Nightwish believes they will have a new album in 07....Now is this really going to happen...ummmm...can't say. That and I'm not sure if anyone can replace Tarja, she had a voice and personality that I don't think anyone can match.

Hey Ny, care to drop names of such other bands?
Hey, no problem; when I was posting before, I wasn't too familiar with the genre, and now can say a few more things about a few more bands, and symphonic metals sub-genres.

Blind Guardian: I have the cd A Night at the Opera, and it's fantastic. They are a tight band, and have a great flow on their album. They have a great, power metal sound, and I can't wait to pick up some more by them. Highly recommended. Also, they have a song about Raistlin Majere on that album ;)

Kamelot: I have the cd expedition, and while the vocalist sounds like such a loser when he's trying to get the crowd going, he's my favourite symphonic metal singer (aside from Dani Filth from Cradle, but not to get ahead of myself...). I suggest picking some more albums by these guys; although I hear they had a different vocalist in their early days, which wasn't as impressive. In any case, awesome band.

Rhapsody of Fire: I have Power of the Dragon Flame and Symphony of Enchanted Lands. These guys are an interesting bunch. Their albums all appear to be concepts which tell some huge, mythical tale. Essentually, it's a cheese-fest (something which a gamer would enjoy, IOWs). I like they, though they can grate on your nerves after awile. Still highly recommended, and they have a large CD cataloge, so be sure to check out other stuff by them ;)

Symphony X: Still an awesome band; be sure to add The Odyssey to your CD library. Other than that, nothing too impressive to say about this band.

Gamma Ray is too poppy for my taste. Don't really care for them.

Dragon Force seems pretty good, but I don't own a cd by them... yet. I'd suggest them, nonetheless. They seem pretty good :)

Cradle of Filth: I own Damnation and a Day, Nymphetamine and their brand new album Thornography. These guys are the Kings of symphonic-black metal. Their singer can go from a whispery scream to a spine-breaking growl in the blink of an eye. If you like your music brutal, but also have a taste for symphonic metal: CoF is your calling. Heed it. It's also worth noting that their new aldum is now showing a much more melodic sound to their band; likely by their next album they'll be fully a melodic-blackened-symphonic metal band; for now they are just seemingly experimenting. In any case, they sound better and better to me after each album.

that's about all I got for now; hope that satisfies you Land Outcast.

cheers,

I've also enjoyed Epica, Visions of Atlantis, and Edenbridge for symphonic metal. They're not as good as Nightwish, IMO, but they're still good listening.
