After reading the graphic novel adaptation of Assassin's Apprentice I decided to reread the Farseer trilogy, which I remember liking when I read it in my early 20s. I do not feel the same way about the books in my mid 30s. There was a lot to like about them but between them being written as a journal, which makes them feel passive to me, and the fact that they drag on....by the third book I was regularly skipping 20 or so pages at a time trying to find the next part when something was happening.
I think I'll stick to the graphic novel adaptations, assuming this first volume sells well enough to continue.

I waited three books for that. They are obviously good books, but I think they fall in the love them or hate them category. It must be close to thirty years since I read them but they're still living rent-free in my head and a mere glimpse of the title or the author's name triggers the boredom trauma.

I enjoyed Assassin's Apprentice and its sequels, at least enough to finish the trilogy. But I couldn't get through the sequel trilogy about the Fool. He was just so whiny and passive!

Her work is dark and erotic. In the 90s is was great, but i have not reread her in decades.

I’ve been rereading the Flat Earth books and they are amazing as ever. She’s one of those writers who makes me yearn to write again, even though the odds of my now growing up to write anything like that are slim. I love her vision and her execution.
