D&D General Favorite Accessories to play D&D and RPGs from the past 52 years

Chessex Battlemat. I’ve got the 6x4 version. All the mapping I ever needed.

I’m a miniatures and terrain guy. I love collecting, painting Dwarven Forge and everything else, and making the most elaborate sets.

And yet none of that has as dear a place in my heart as my first Chessex hexagonal battlemat, purchased when I was 13 years old from the little hobby shop at Rutherford Mall in Nanaimo, BC. That thing contained entire worlds for me and my friends.

I like the wood battle tokens bought from Diceofrolling.com.
I also got some colored ones off Etsy, but we had to coat the tops of those with clear nail polish to keep them from getting messed up by water.

Chessex Dice - the clear purple ones with white numbers. Someone else's matching color leather dice bag.
Chessex Battle mats - several sizes. First purchased for Star Fleet Battles in the 80s. Picked up several later for RPGs.
Paizo - Magnetic Initiative tracker
Paizo - Flip maps
WOTC - D&D minis for the combat game. Bought many on the aftermarket for 10 cent per common mini.
Plano - Clear plastic tackle boxes. Useful for organizing and carrying minis and small terrain features.
Unknown - several colors of glass beads. Many uses on a gaming map.
Surplus US military assault molle pack. Fitted with various bags. Used to carry gaming stuff + mug & drink. Leaves hands free.

Since we're sharing minis photos, here is my brute squad. A little out of date (I've added a bunch of Ral Partha D&D trolls, an ettin, and an umber hulk among others). I've had a lot of fun collecting and painting vintage minis the past few years. I play mostly online, but when we do get together it's fun to break them out.

Great paint job. The bugbears at the back crack me up! They look like evil teddy bears.

This pocket sized, foldable dry erase board is with me since the beginnings of 5E I believe, circa 2017. After a couple of uses, I instantly bought three more, because I was completly sold on it and very much afraid it would deteriorate quickly and not sure I would be able to find the same model any more after two or three years.

I'm still on the first one and have given the second one to one of my sons. The third one is safe in my drawer.
