My favorite Doctor is Tennant. My second favorite is Christopher Eccleston. Then probably Matt Smith but I havent seen any of the Peter Capaldi, Jodi Whittaker or Nctuti Gatwa versions.
The second and third seasons with Peter Capaldi are really strong.

They really ran with the NuWho question of how being the Doctor's companion can screw your life up. And we also get a similarly empathetic season-long arc about the Master.

Definitely worth checking out.

Yeah. That's why this is an impossible question for me. Once I start listing the high points of one Doctor's run, I immediately start thinking of the high points of another, then another, etc.

If you like Doctor Who, you'll almost certainly find things to like and love about every Doctor's era.

David Tennant, then followed by Matt Smith. I loved both of their arcs and they seemed to have a lot of tie-ins to each other. I stopped watching once the Doctor regenerated into Capaldi; unfortunately I wasn’t able to get into his performance.

Of the current iterations those two are probably my favorite as well. I continued watching through the end though (well, last series), so watched Capaldi and the series after him as well. They all did a good job at the role, but I liked Tennant and Smith best.

My favorite character though was probably Captain Jack Harkness.

PS: Yes, that means I also watched Torchwood. Torchwood was a tough one though, it started off extremely strong and each season got weaker than the last (IMO).

I have to say Eccleston with Billie Piper. Tenant doesn't do anything for me, so I stopped watching. Didn't watch the others, except Gatwa but the quality of the episodes was too uneven, we stopped watching. I'm very curious about Capaldi. Might watch them if we get Disney+ for a month during Winter.

I really enjoyed the "happy" Jack we saw when the character was in Doctor Who, but really didn't like "mopey" Jack in Torchwood. He just wasn't fun.

I found exactly the same with Gatwa's Doctor - he was introduced as the result of Fourteen having spent time healing, so was much happier than previous incarnations. It felt like a huge sigh of relief. Which lasted for about an episode and a half before we seemed to revert to the norm.

Eccleston. He was my "First" Doctor (never had access to Who as a kid and never ran into a fan who could inrroduce me in college/as a young adult, so no real exposure), so he kind of framed my expectations of what a Doctor is. And his run was so short, there wasn't any chance for the ridiculousness that detracted from the other NewWho runs. In full disclosure, I've only see Eccleston, Tennant, and did not finish Smith (up to "Angels Take Manhattan", but I have gaps before that---those just were not very memorable to me) and Gatwa--who I have the utmost respect for.
