Writers write. And by extension, if you write, you are a writer. It is not an exclusive club.It does. Because writing comes before writing with any kind of adverb or adjective.
You’re really, really not alone with that. It’s not actually required to be neurodivergent as a writer, but it’s very, very common among my friends and acquaintances in the biz. I see two recurring pieces of advice for living with those times when the brain is acting like so much mass of Pop Rocks:I should be working on fixing my novella but..AuADHD says no >_<
my attention is currently focused on doing anything other than the novella but my mind is for some reason is also considering what changes may look like and how to go about those changes lolYou’re really, really not alone with that. It’s not actually required to be neurodivergent as a writer, but it’s very, very common among my friends and acquaintances in the biz. I see two recurring pieces of advice for living with those times when the brain is acting like so much mass of Pop Rocks:
1. Having put in a good effort, don’t do anything impulsive like deleting it in a moment of depression. Take some time to read, listen to music, watch a show, or otherwise nourish your mental trove of ideas and sensations.
2. If it feels like your brain wants to write (or edit), but that particular work isn’t working, work on something else. This is how a lot of short stories get started. Working in a side thing you just poke at once is fine. So is starting something you’d like to continue. The point is to just get out of the current rut.
